Overview

Kyoto once flourished as the capital of Japan for over a thousand years until Tokyo became the capital and the emperor moved there in 1868. There are plenty of places worth visiting such as Arashiyama, which used to be the aristocrats’ summer resort, a magnificent temple with a stunning garden, the alleys where geisha girls in kimono stroll, and the celebrated shrine with a tunnel of a thousand vermillion torii gates. We will show you the sights that represent Kyoto for a whole day.

  • Bamboo Forest Street

    In the fresh air in the early morning, we walk through the renowned bamboo forest before the site gets busy. The beauty of the bamboo grove in the morning sun is exceptional. Let's stop and close our eyes. The sounds of the beautiful bamboo trunks and leaves touching each other in the morning breeze have a relaxing and soothing effect on the visitors.

  • Kinkakuji Temple

    This is a famous temple which is an icon of Samurai culture. It once was the villa of retired shogun and was converted into a temple after his death. The main building covered with gold leaf is incredibly beautiful in itself. In addition to that, the harmony with the nearby pond and the surrounding garden makes the scenery magnificent. When you come to Kyoto, you can’t miss this site.

  • Gion

    This site is known for geisha and if you are lucky enough, you may encounter them walking from their boarding houses to the tea houses where they perform to guests.

  • Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine

    The beautiful tunnel of thousands of vermillion torii gates is very famous and picturesque. These torii gates are offered by worshippers as a token of appreciation for the good luck they received from the god of this shrine. Why don’t you offer a prayer here and change your luck?

Great day out

Fuji our guide is a really interesting guy, very knowledgeable and engaging. He had a great sense of humour and made our trip a great experience. It’s a full on day from one side of Kyoto to the other, using all public transport including buses. The sites are amazing, very busy but worth it. Shrines, temples, the bamboo forest and the beautiful river. I would recommend this trip as a must do while in Kyoto.

Lynn was a great guide. She was very attentive to the needs of each member of our group and very patient. We were able to traverse the train system with her guidance. She imparted a great bit of information about each stop and was an enjoyable companion.

Naoko was a wonderful guide. She was extremely knowledgeable about all the sites we visited. We learned so much and covered more than we had expected. So glad we booked this tour, as we would have never been able to see as much, or get as much detailed information as we did if we had tried to this on our own. Highly recommend, as it was well worth it!
