Overview

Experience sword practice and Zen in a historical samurai house in Kyoto. This is an excellent chance for visitors to try out a real Japanese katana and learn about samurai culture in an unique location.

Our gates will open 15 minutes before your scheduled time. In order to be dressed in samurai attire, guests need to arrive at this time. We will begin our session promptly at the scheduled time. If you arrive after this time, you will not be dressed in samurai attire.

Itinerary

This is an excellent chance for visitors to get a firsthand look into the world of the samurai. Learn more about the history of Japan's warrior class and try your hand at wielding a real katana. Afterwards, practice some inward reflection with Zen meditation, used by the samurai to calm their minds during battle.

We absolutely loved this experience. It was an excellent mix of history and practical experiences. Loved dressing up and using the katana. Highly recommended. 18,21 and 41 year old loved it!!!

This was such a fun activity to do in Kyoto, which I would highly recommend to anyone that travels to Kyoto! The cultura information and the katana teachings made it a perfect blend. This is a not to be missed experience for sure!

Fantastic experience. From start to finish, the hosts showed a high level of thought and care, and were genuinely passionate and well informed about the samurai and their history. The instructor was excellent, he embodied the grace and elegance of traditional Japanese swordsman. The sword wielding exercise itself was enjoyable and is 100% worth trying. The zen meditation was also a great touch Would strongly recommend this experience, thanks to Joji, Celeste and the inspiring instructor.

A fun, informative and new experience. It was something else being taught how to handle a katana in a samurai house by someone from a samurai lineage.
