Overview

This tour covers every part of the bamboo forest. By rickshaw and on foot! The first stop after cruising through the bustling main street is the bamboo forest. Enjoy the vivid green bamboo as your guide pulls you along the path reserved for rickshaws only, away from other visitors. Have your camera or mobile phone ready to take pictures. You don’t want to miss this. After passing by the Nonomiya Shrine you will enter the second part of the bamboo forest, which is designed like a little park. Here we can take great group pictures with the stunning green bamboo in the background. On the way to the third and last section of the bamboo forest, you will pass by a well-kept scene from the Edo period The third part of the bamboo forest can only be accessed on foot, so our guide will park the rickshaw within walking distance and then guide you to the most famous and impressive part of the bamboo forest. (To avoid the crowds here, we recommend starting the tour before noon)

Itinerary

  • Bamboo Forest Street

    Get off the rickshaw and walk to the most famous part of the bamboo forest which can not be accessed by rickshaw. The walk includes going up and down a steep slope.

    Shinto shrine nestled in the bamboo forest.

    Pass through the bamboo grove for great pictures

  • Ebisuya Rickshaw Office (Pass By)

    Your rickshaw tour operator for the rickshaw tour in Arashiyama. Tour can be customized and choice of attractions possible depend on tour duration selected.

  • Rakushisha (Pass By)

    Cottage of a famous Haiku Poet. This cottage is built in the traditional pastoral style, with a straw thatched roof.

An exceptional ride

We loved every minute of our Arashiyama rickshaw tour. Extended to 90 minutes and go to experience some special places. Our runner, Naoki, the Ninja, was exceptional in every way. He had a great sense of humour, was very fit, spoke very good English and gave us lots of cultural insights about the area. We were treated very respectfully and kept dry on a rainy Kyoto day. Highly recommend getting there early to avoid the crowds in the streets. Thank you so much, Naoki.

Memorable trip in Arashiyama

It was our first visit to Arashiyama, and we chose to explore it by rickshaw tour. Mr. Kosei guided us along the way, introducing local attractions and restaurants. When he found out we were from Taiwan, he kindly used Mandarin to explain, making the experience even more enjoyable. Thanks to his recommendations, we got to try some great cafés and restaurants. His photography skills were excellent, capturing beautiful memories for us. The entire ride was comfortable and pleasant. We’ll definitely recommend this to friends and hope to experience it again ourselves.

Best way to see the bamboo forest!

This was such a cool experience! The bamboo forest is stunning and this is absolutely the right way to see it. Our rickshaw puller Taikai Sato was personable, fluent in English (we learned that his father was an English teacher), knowledgeable about the area and took wonderful photos of us. Loved everything about this and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Wonderful Ride thru the Bamboo Forest

We had such a wonderful experience with Ebisuya Rickshaw. The rickshaw guides are so friendly and incredibly strong to do what they do every day, all day. We were taken to a secluded temple with a beautiful garden and one of our guides took amazing photos and edited them right on the spot. They were gorgeous. We loved the bamboo forest and avoiding the crowds and not having to walk. It was such a fun experience for our family. Highly recommend! Book early because they do sell out fast.
