Overview

In Gion district, there are many traditional things left within a small area that can be walked around. -A town of geisha culture with 300 years of history, lined with old buildings. -A wooden pagoda built over 600 years ago. -Shrines with a history of more than 1,000 years. -Beautiful streets made of stone pavement. Our tour will visit these places at night when there are few people around. At night, Gion turns into a magical place with serene street lights, the perfect time to enjoy the beauty of Gion. Itinerary

  • Gionmachi Minamigawa

    It is one of the most famous streets in Kyoto. You may see a Maiko or Geiko if lucky. If you see a Maiko or Geiko, greet them with a smile and say "Konnichiwa."

  • Yasui-Konpiragu

    It is a shrine that helps men and women meet each other and cut off bad relationships. In the case of a married couple or a couple, the bond will be stronger.

  • Sannenzaka Ninenzaka

    This road leads near Kiyomizu-dera Temple. This road also has a beautiful traditional Kyoto townscape, and Yasaka-no-to (Yasaka Pagoda) is especially popular.

  • Ryōzen Kannon Temple (Pass By)

    It was built in 1955 to pray for the repose of the souls of the victims of World War II. There is a very large statue of Kannon.

  • Kodai-ji Temple (Pass By)

    It was built about 400 years ago by the wife of a shogun to mourn the death of her husband. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful garden, the 400-year-old tea ceremony house, and the bamboo grove. Also, this place is not as crowded as Kiyomizu-dera Temple and is a perfect temple to feel the calm atmosphere of Kyoto. Caution: Daytime only Closing time is 5 pm.

  • Yasaka Shrine

    Yasaka Shrine is the head shrine of approximately 2,300 related shrines throughout Japan. Yasaka Shrine is known as "Gion-san" for its blessings to ward off bad luck, bring good luck, and promote beauty.

So glad I did this tour!!

This tour was the one of the best decision I made. The meeting place was easy to find, Sho (the tour guide) was wonderful, he was friendly, kept us on track and on time. He took us on paths that I otherwise would not have known to take, and showed us great picture spots! I did the later tour (8:30 pm) and this provided a quieter walk and less people in the area which was a nice added bonus, we even saw a few Geishaā€™s coming out of a private tea room! Great value for money, I already have recommended this tour to my friends visiting next year and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quick and informative tour with a wonderful tour guide.

Best way to experience Gion

Wonderful guide walked us through historic neighborhood that is hub of Kyoto culture and nightlife. We saw Geisha, gorgeous temples, and the cityā€™s famous architecture all while walking and chatting with our knowledgeable and easy going guide.

It was nice to visit Gion district at night and be able to learn about the history while avoiding all the crowds. Sho did a great job with answering all our questions.

We greatly enjoyed our tour with Sho on Friday night. We learned so much and he made the tour very fun and interesting. We wouldnā€™t have found some of these areas on our own, and even if we did, our visit to Gion would not have been as meaningful. The tour was an hour and a half, and we felt was the perfect length. We saw and learned a lot in that time, but also had time for dinner and shopping that evening during our limited time in Kyoto.
