    You will enjoy traditional Kyoto cuisine and walk around the streets of the city. In Gion, you can see traditional wooden machiya houses, teahouses where geisha entertain, and beautiful lantern-lit streets that transport you back in time. The area is famous for its historic ambiance, where you might even catch a glimpse of a geisha or maiko (apprentice geisha) elegantly walking to their next engagement. Gion is also home to the stunning Yasaka Shrine, which hosts vibrant festivals throughout the year. This district is a perfect blend of the old and new, offering a unique insight into Kyoto's rich cultural heritage and vibrant nightlife. It's a must-visit area to truly experience the essence of Kyoto.

    You will enjoy light snacks and Japanese sake while I explain the city's streets. Pontocho is a narrow alley filled with traditional wooden buildings and lantern-lit pathways, offering a nostalgic atmosphere that takes you back in time. This charming area is especially famous for its riverside dining along the Kamo River during the summer, where many people visit to enjoy delicious meals with beautiful views on the kawadoko (riverside platforms). Pontocho is also known for its vibrant nightlife, with numerous bars and restaurants serving exquisite Japanese cuisine and drinks. It's a perfect place to experience the authentic charm and culinary delights of Kyoto.

A Truly Memorable Evening in Kyoto

We had an incredible time on the Kyoto Local Gourmet Experience with our guide, Yoshi. From the moment we met, Yoshi made us feel welcome with his friendly nature and deep knowledge of the local culture. He took us to some amazing hidden spots we’d never have discovered on our own, each with its own unique charm. The conversations throughout the evening were just as enjoyable as the surroundings—insightful, engaging, and often filled with laughter. This was one of the most memorable experiences of our trip. If you’re looking to explore a different side of Kyoto with someone who really knows the city, this tour is a must.

We had a wonderful time with Ayane! The food from all three locations was great and each provided a unique experience. The small group setting made it feel more personalized.

Our excellent guide Yui took us to three different places, showcasing the range of eateries Kyoto has to offer, from the traditional to the relaxed to the sweet! Food was great throughout and there were certainly enough drinks to keep us topped up! We even had a 2 year old and she was OK to be taken round as well.
