This was such a fun excursion! Seeing the historic area of Kyoto at night is definitely something one must experience and having a guide like Richard to lead you through the stone streets is nothing short of amazing. His knowledge of the history of his hometown and Geisha culture is deep and my daughter and I learned so much in such a short time. We went in December and stopping for a Kyoto snack of Udon mid tour was perfect. Be prepared to walk a lot but also have your cameras ready because along with his deep knowledge of history, Richard knows all of the best vantage spots for photos overlooking Kyoto and the monumental temples and shrines. Thank you Richard for teaching us about your culture and how to travel through culturally significant spaces with respect.

Richard was a fantastic tour guide. He was so friendly and answered all of our questions with ease. Going in the evening meant it was quite quiet and we explored backstreets and quieter areas as well as the more famous sights. I highly recommend this tour!

Excellent tour with great guide. Richard was knowledgeable and very interesting to speak to and listen to. We very much enjoyed the small group atmosphere and going to places in the evening when it was less crowded. We definitely recommend this tour and guide!

Every turn of the tour has a magical moment. One of the best experiences I’ve ever been on. We learned so much about Geisha and Kyoto culture. Richard was a knowledgeable and pleasure and he truly made it a magical experience.

We had the pleasure of joining a night tour in Kyoto led by Richard, and it was an unforgettable experience. Richard was incredibly informative, patient, and professional throughout the entire tour. We gained a deep appreciation for Japanese culture, particularly the intricate world of geisha and the rigorous timeline of their training. It’s all about the art and the preservation of Japanese traditions, and we felt truly honored to learn about it. Despite visiting Japan every year for the past decade on our own, this tour filled in so many gaps we hadn’t realized were there. Richard’s detailed explanations gave us a richer understanding of Japanese customs and cultural nuances—far beyond anything we could have found on Wikipedia. We spent hours walking through less crowded local alleys, learning about the history and background of the area. The tour even included a delicious local snack, which was a perfect warm-up for our stomachs and added a special touch to the experience. If you’re in Kyoto, this tour is a must! Don’t miss it.
