Overview

When your cruise ship docks in the port of Costa Maya, embark on a 3.5-hour shore excursion to Chacchoben. Explore the ancient Mayan city, where mysterious pyramids and temples remained hidden until the late 20th century! Your informative guide will tell you about the original occupants of this significant archeological site, as well as the native animals ā€“ including toucans and jaguars ā€“ that inhabit the surrounding jungle. Rafael was a great tour guide! We happened to be the only people on the tour that day so he made it very personalized. We went to the same location as people who were on our boat who paid for their excursion through the cruise ship, but they were in a group of 30 people. Rafael had little extras like tasting the all-spice tree leaf and stopping to taste some honey pineapple on the way back that the large group didn't do. We highly recommend!

We were too late, missed the trip. The owner found another group for us to join when we arrived. But the kids decided not to do it any more( We went to the wrong way, lost in the port, so too much running to find them already). the ownner refunded us immediately without any hassle. He is very nice. recommend.

This was absolutely one of the most amazing experiences Iā€™ve ever had! The guide was local and very knowledgeable, thorough, and attentive! The tour left on time but he made sure he had everyone before leaving. Upon arriving at Chacchoben I immediately saw the difference and benefit of booking the tour via Trip Advisor vs the cruise line: 1: the price was nearly half off 2: the cruise line tours had groups of 70-80 people with a guide with a loudspeaker yelling out random facts and moving fast 3: my tour group had about 9 people, the guide (because he was a local guy) have us an actual detailed accounting of the cultural history of the Mayan people (including answering every single question asked) and he took his time and made sure we got all the pictures that we wanted! Finally he made sure we were back to the port with hours to spare! This is my first time using Trip Advisor to book an excursion, and this will be how I do it from now on!! If you are having any doubts (I did too), I promise you this is the way to go!!
