Overview

Walking with a small company and with a very small group will make you enjoy this 4- to 5-hour activity on the Ponta de São Lourenço peninsula. The Ponta de São Lourenço Trail is a popular hiking trail located in Madeira, Portugal. It is situated at the easternmost point of the island and offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. The trail is approximately 8km long and takes around 3-4 hours to complete. The terrain is rocky and rugged, with steep inclines and declines, making it a moderately challenging hike. However, the stunning coastal scenery and diverse flora and fauna along the way make it a rewarding experience.     The Ponta de São Lourenço is the eastern tip of the island of Madeira, occupying nine kilometers in length, in the form of a peninsula, Because of the uniqueness and richness of its natural values, Ponta de São Lourenço emerges as a place of reference for those who seek the practice of nature tourism in the Region, with about 150 being the number of daily pedestrian visitors who visit it. The Reception Center, which is located at the end of the trail linked to this area, offers its visitors, through an exhibition, a knowledge about the most important patrimonial values ​​of the site, addressing topics such as its geology, flora and fauna .

Fantastic walk with David!

We had an absolutely fantastic time with David on this guided hike. We only ended up doing it because we tried to book the guided walking route PR1 Vereda do Areeiro through Viator with Up Mountain, and had the booking rejected. We initially couldn’t understand why, but booked a self-guided walk on that route (just transport to/from the walk). David was then kind enough to reach out later via WhatsApp, completely unprompted, to explain that the PR1 route was closed and any booking for it would result in disappointment! He offered us this alternative and we were delighted to accept, and so glad we did, cancelling our other booking, and he was very accommodating re the only date we could do, running the hike for just four of us even though there would normally be 8. The hike was stunningly beautiful, David was great company and very knowledgeable, and we got to see a beautiful sunrise with stunning weather; the landscape was so dramatic I’m sure it would be beautiful in most weathers! We got a great swim at the end too. David even took us for a “proper” Poncha local drink at a local place he knew on the way home, as we were assured that the one we had in our hotel would not have been a true taste of this drink! A wonderful trip we can highly recommend to anyone with Up Mountain, and if you’re lucky, with David!

This was one of the best holidays we had. A week full of interesting places, hiking and the best guides. We totally recommend Nico and David and if we go back we will organize for sure other excursions with them. Very professional, friendly and easy to talk to. We felt like friends from the beginning.
