Overview

Start this tour towards Pico do Arieiro, the highest mountain accessible by car and the third highest on the island (1818m). Here you will be amazed by the fantastic views over the mountains and the island. Descent towards Ribeiro Frio, located in the Laurissilva forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where nature lives in perfect harmony. Continuing along the north coast, pass through Faial and arrive at Santana, a village known for its typical and original thatched roof houses. After lunch, admire Ponta de São Lourenço, with several rock formations and impressive views. Arrive in Machico, a historic town where the discoverers first landed in 1419. Return to the Hotel.

    We start this excursion to the eastern part of the island with a visit to Camacha, a locality known for making handicrafts such as wicker baskets making a visit to the wicker factory.

    Here we visit a trout nursery and take a short walk along the Levada dos Balcões ending with a view of the three highest mountains.

    Viewpoint of Portela, passing by Santo da Serra, known for its beautiful rural landscapes and the famous golf course where international tournaments are held annually.

Wonderful day of the tour

Beside of being crashed by a stinky fat guy all day long, the tour was fantastic. The driver was very knowledgeable and shared lots of local culture with us. It was a brilliant experience. The lavadas walk was surprising and easy walk.

Amazing landscapes

This was an amazing tour seeing spectacular landscapes, we particularly liked Porto Da Cruz. The driver gave us useful information without having a constant running historical commentary which made the whole tour very relaxing- thank you Brian. Top tip, it’s cold at the mountain stop so take a jumper!

Our jeep safari through Madeira was an unforgettable experience. The tour took us off the beaten path, where we got to explore the rugged terrain, lush forests and stunning scenery. The thrill of riding through narrow, bumpy roads made it more exciting. Our driver/guide was knowledgeable, friendly and funny; sharing facts about Madeira's history, fauna and flora. Overall, the jeep safari was an exhilarating way to see Madeira's natural beauty. A must do tour. Highly recommended.
