I want to set the stage in your mind and try to describe this unbelievable adventure. We drove to Riomaggiore as close to the cooking class location as possible, and luckily there was a parking garage. We located the house with the help of a very kind garage attendant, who also informed us of a weather alert (heavy rains) which they take very seriously. We got there early and walked around the beautiful town. It is like a postcard. We returned to the class location and sat there marveling at some older people climbing massive stone stairs, wondering how hard it must be to manage this task daily. We saw another younger woman coming down the same steep staircase, and it was Giulia, our chef/teacher for the evening. She led us through a maze of stairs and hallways up to a beautiful apartment and she welcomed us inside. We were immediately served some espresso and delicious cheese and meats to snack on while we spent time sharing about Giulis's family history and ours. Giulia was very good cook and explained everything, teaching us to prepare fresh ravioli and pasta, as well as a delicious tiramisu. We drank wine, dined on our creations, and had wonderful conversation. This is not just a cooking class. It is a MUST do experience!!
