Itinerary

  • Nijo Castle

Brilliant huge complex and shiny golden items are proof of the powerful governance presented by the Tokugawa shogunate. After the severe wartime of Midlee ages ends, it brings 200 years of peaceful period until the arrival of Perry. Their gunboat diplomacy rushed Japan to shift the nation and attitude to diplomacy. The castle introduces the history of this time with some unique displays.

    2 hours

  • Kyoto Sento Imperial Palace (Sento Gosho)

Kyoto Gosho, a massive Kyoto imperial palace had been the center of the former government. As emperors have been respected as descendants of god, every clan and ruler served him and offered a variety of spectacular items. We still can enjoy their art and props sustaining for a long time.

    1 hour

  • Ginkakuji Temple

Ginkaku-ji (Silver Pavilion) was so named in the Edo Period in contrast with Kinkaku-ji (Gold Pavilion). The palace became a Zen Rinzai School temple after the ruler died. Ginkaku-ji still retains the aesthetic-seeking spirit of Yoshimasa even 500 years later.

    1 hour

  • Philosopher's Walk

The Philosopher's Path (哲学の道, Tetsugaku no Michi) is a pleasant stone path through the northern part of Kyoto's Higashiyama district. The path follows a canal that is lined by hundreds of cherry trees. Usually in early April, these trees explode with color, making this one of the city's most popular hanami (cherry blossom viewing) spots. Approximately two kilometers long, the path begins around Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion) and ends in the neighborhood of Nanzenji. The path got its name due to Nishida Kitaro, one of Japan's most famous philosophers, who was said to practice meditation while walking this route on his daily commute to Kyoto University.

    1 hour

  • Nanzen-ji Temple

Visitors will first come across Nanzenji's massive Sanmon entrance gate, which extends over the treetops. The gate was constructed in 1628 by the ruling Tokugawa clan for soldiers who died in the siege of Osaka Castle in 1615.

    1 hour

  • Kiyomizu-dera Temple

Kiyomizudera (清水寺, literally "Pure Water Temple") is one of the most celebrated temples in Japan. It was founded in 780 on the site of the Otowa Waterfall in the wooded hills east of Kyoto

    1 hour

  • Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine

Fushimi Inari Shrine (伏見稲荷大社, Fushimi Inari Taisha) is an important Shinto shrine in southern Kyoto. It is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates, which straddle a network of trails behind its main buildings. The trails lead into the wooded forest of the sacred Mount Inari, which stands at 233 meters and belongs to the shrine grounds. Fushimi Inari is the most important of several thousands of shrines dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice. Foxes are thought to be Inari's messengers, resulting in many fox statues across the shrine grounds. Fushimi Inari Shrine has ancient origins, predating the capital's move to Kyoto in 794.

Truly Amazing Kyoto Experience

Published on May, 2024

If you're looking for flexible and expert views of beautiful Kyoto, Takashi-san of Amazing Kyoto Experience is an excellent choice. I avoid guided tours due to their rigid nature, but Takashi-san customized our Kyoto tour and provided a delightful view of many interesting points. Takashi-san's English is perfect and his knowledge of Kyoto is broad. We arrived in Kyoto hoping for Cherry Blossom viewing, but the blossoms were late due to the cool weather. Takashi-san knew of a few secret spots where the blossoms had opened and took us there. He made the trip for us. In addition, he took us to several out-of-the-way exquisite temples. I've never felt less like a tourist and more like an explorer. Highly recommend!
