Overview

LET'S GET OUT OF THE TOURIST AREA where it's overpriced and crowded with tourists! Iā€™ll discuss not only Japanese food and drinks but also culture, traditions and history, which will be beneficial for the rest of your stay in Japan for sure! This tour focuses on Ueno, which is not as crowded as Shibuya, Shinjuku and is less touristy. I'm going to take you to popular taverns and restaurants for ONLY LOCALS (NO TOURISTS!!) where the staff speaks NO ENGLISH. We will visit several taverns where you will have sashimi, grilled fish and ramen, etc. You will also have the opportunity to try UNIQUE Japanese alcoholic drinks, so you'll be able to experience what Japanese taverns are like. I'll order signature dishes and feel free to ask me any questions. At the end of tour, I will explain which train station you need to go to, depending on your destination.

    I am going to teach you about Japanese alcoholic drinks and foods you'll be able to experience what Japanese taverns are like. I'll explain all dishes I order and you can pepper me with questions - ask me anything you want to know about the food and drinks on the menus of the places we visit! Afrer we have fun in a couple or three of my favourite and the most outstanding taverns, we will head to a ramen shop.

An exceptional highlight of our time in Tokyo

This tour was one of the best things that we did during our trip to Japan! The tour guide, Aki, was a blast to spend time with. When issues arose with one of the venues that we were originally supposed to visit, they quickly organized a replacement stop at an izakaya that was exceptionally fun. The food and drinks were delicious (although I have a few reservations about the "Mystery Pork"), and we got to experience a wide variety of authentic Japanese cuisine and culinary culture. We also got to know the other tour members over the course of the evening, meeting many wonderful people from around the world. I can whole-heartedly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an exciting and unforgettable evening exploring the lesser-known aspects of Tokyo and Japanese culture.

A great way to learn about Ueno from a Japanese perspective while of course, enjoying a ton of Japanese booze and Izakaya foods.

Aki is a wonderful and knowledgeable host. Truly unique experience seeing where the locals drink! Not only will you learn about the Izakayas and the various foods/drinks but Aki will also share a bit of history with you! Aki knows how to have a good time and will keep you entertained with great stories while you try new places! Definitely a must if you want to get to know the Ueno area!

This was a major highlight of our time in Tokyo. Aki and Umi were so much fun to be around and definitely got the group intermingled well once the drinks were coming. Learned lots about drinking and food culture and had some of the best food of my life
