Overview

The Alentejo! Where the Portuguese culture is most alive and untouched. On this tour we will visit the heart of this rural Portuguese region. Here lies the museum like city of Évora and the pure medieval village of Monsaraz. Jump into the core of Portuguese rural identity and let yourself be dazzled by this UNESCO world heritage city. From the Neolithic to the Roman empire, passing through the strong Arabic domination and the final settling of the Christians, this place is a true wide national history museum, home to some of the greatest Portuguese monuments like the Bone Chapel or the Roman temple of Diana. We will also have the chance to wander through the medieval walled village of Monsaraz and enjoy the unique views to the biggest artificial lake in Europe and the border to Spain.

Unforgettable trip to Evora and Monsaraz

Had a wonderful day with GUI. He took us to evora which was very interesting. After leaving there, we were able to change our plans and go to a cork factory and to a vineyard. What a wonderful afternoon it was. The cork factory is definitely a must. And the wine was wonderful. We had such a great day with such a nice friend. Thank you again,GUI. Carl and Chris

Guy was an excellent guide! Extremely knowledgeable! Very Resourceful! And enjoyably personable! We had a fantastic day with him touring Evora and Monsaraz. Lots of interesting historical facts connecting to what you are seeing. Arranged a spectacular lunch for us to suit our dietary needs. Relaxed pace , giving more than enough time for our personal interest.

Fantastic tour with Joao Pedro as our guide

A all-day private tour like this is so much worth the cost if you are lucky enough to have an excellent tour guide like Joao Pedro. One important item to note is that we were never rushed or felt rushed to see something in a certain time period, we always had plenty of time to enjoy the area we were visiting. Although I had considered simply taking a train to visit Evora we would have made a very big mistake. Since Joao was/is also an agricultural engineer we learned all about the local farming in this part of Portugal as we drove to the various destinations along the way. We also have a change to stop and look at cork trees and learn how the cork is harvested and graded. In Evora it seemed like every 10 minutes someone would say hello to him as he went to school there and still has many friends in the area. Needless to say, we were very happy we had Joao as our guide again as we had also had him the day before on another tour. If you have Joao as a guide, be ready to learn and be entertained at the same time.

Joo explained so many things to us and took us to a wonderful restaurant for lunch. We were able to experience the “ black pig”. The views were amazing and the history fascinating. It would be hard to find a better tour guide.
