Overview

The Do Eat Better Experience food tour is a walking tour around the historical center of the city. The tourist is guided by a "Foodie", a local "buddy" able to explain every detail of the selected restaurants, their preparations, and the relevant history/curiosities. Do Eat Better Experience tours are a mix of high-quality gastronomy as a way for showing local culture and lifestyle and a walking experience together with a local friend. This is the reason why we accept small groups only: we want to focus on a genuine exchange and give to each tourist the highest attention possible. Our food tour in Porto is a walking tour in stops, we are going to stop in at least 4 different venues and taste the best typical dishes along with drinks of Porto! You are going to be guided by a local food expert, who will tell you curiosities about the local gastronomy tradition.

First Stop) Pastel de Nata: a beloved Portuguese pastry, is a delectable and iconic treat that tantalizes taste buds with its rich, creamy custard filling nestled within layers of flaky, golden-brown puff pastry. This delighƞul pastry is perfectly balanced, offering a sweet and slightly caramelized flavor, often accentuated with a dusting of cinnamon or powdered sugar on top. Coffee: paired with the most typical of Portuguese sweets, a coffe just goes with it! A lovely and energetic start for our tour!

Second Stop) Board of local Cheeses: Porto, known for its rich culinary heritage, boasts a variety of distinctive cheeses that capture the essence of the region. Wine: Paired with the local board we'll also drink a glass of local wine!

Third Stop) Bifana: a savory delight from Portuguese cuisine, is a flavorful sandwich featuring thinly sliced marinated pork nestled within a soft or crusty bread roll. The pork is typically seasoned with garlic, paprika, and other spices, then slow-cooked to perfection. Beer: in addition to the local food, we'll drink a refreshing beer which pairs beautifully with the slightly spicy taste of the bifana.

Forth Stop) Petiscos: a delightful aspect of Portuguese culinary culture, refer to a variety of small, flavorful dishes akin to tapas in Spain. These bite-sized treats are designed for sharing, encouraging a communal and social dining experience. From marinated olives and cheese platters to grilled chorizo and seafood skewers, petiscos showcase the diverse and rich flavors of Portuguese cuisine. Pataniscas: a beloved Portuguese dish, are delicious, deep-fried fritters made from a batter of salted codfish, flour, eggs, and aromatic herbs. These golden-brown delights boast a crispy exterior that gives way to a tender and flavorful core. Wine: a glass of wine is included in the tasca as well!

Fifth Stop) Port Wine is named after the city of Oporto, the second largest city in Portugal and a major port that historically exported Portuguese wines. Port wine is fortified with grape spirits and tastes complex and sweet. In alternative to the drink alone you may also the cocktail try white port mixed with tonic. But you can actually use any style of port, including a Red or Young Tawny Port to make a Port and Tonic.

This food tour exceeded my wildest expectations, I am always nervous as a booker of such activities when in a group, the worry that it will disappoint or not meet everyone's expectations is significant but this tour was an absolute triumph!! - Our guide Filipe was knowledgeable, funny and managed our rather excitable group of ladies with ease - The tour was well thought out and a great variety of things to sample, each location was only a short walk from the next, manageable for even those who may be less agile and accompanied by Filipe telling us about the different sites and history as we passed though Porto. - The food was outstanding and the amount we got was so unexpected. Every location we were met with a warm welcome and a generous portion of great examples of local cuisine to try while Filipe told us all the details and stories connected to each one as well as answering our many questions - Drinks were plentiful, we thought we would get a few samples to try but we were most definitely well lubricated by the end of the tour, again much kudos to Filipe for managing our merry gaggle of ladies :D - One of our group was pescatarian, this was communicated on booking and well catered for, she was very pleased - Communication prior to the tour was easy and clear, we had a slight issue finding the start point, the app gave us a location to navigate too but I don't think it was correct however Filipe quickly found us and whisked us of to our first stop for the best Pastel de Nata we had our entire trip (and we tried A LOT of them!!) - Post tour Filipe promised to send recommendations for a few things to do and an amazing restaurant for our final dinner and he did not let us down, even helping out with a few further info requests we had later in our stay All in all I would highly recommend this tour, both the organisation, the locations and of course Filipe for making it such a special experience! An excellent tour

Filipe, our guide for this tour, was absolutely fantastic. An excellent combination of food, drinks and fascinating knowledge about the city. Filipe was so helpful and even continued to respond to any questions we had throughout our trip. We went on this tour in a group of six friends and Filipe adapted the tour to accommodate one pescetarian. The Pastel de Nata was the highlight for me and we revisited that particular cafe multiple more times on our trip for more!

We thoroughly enjoyed our Porto food tour with Andreia. She had so much knowledge about Porto, having lived in Porto all her life. She took us to authentic Portuguese eateries and to the market. We enjoyed all the food and her knowledge of the origins and how they are made, whilst walking and exploring Porto between food. The port tasting was delicious too! We fully recommend this tour. Andreia was an amazing tour guide.
