Pedro is an outstanding tour guide with incredible knowledge of the local history and geography. He made the experience engaging and memorable, and I especially enjoyed our lively conversation about football during the ride. The Peneda-Gerês National Park is breathtaking, and Pedro ensured we visited some of the most stunning viewpoints. It was an unforgettable adventure, and I highly recommend exploring with Detours!

We were met at 8am at our hotel by our guide Francisco and the only other guy on our tour Rodrigo from Brazil. The weather was around 15/16 degrees and Rain and cloud forecast all day. We set off on an hour and 45 minute drive to the National park and we had a coffee and breakfast stop about 30 mins from our destination. The tour began in a small village high up in the mountains called Fafião. We walked around the village and along a trek to visit a “Wolf Trap” and then on to an amazing viewpoint. The village is known as the village of the wolf. We continued on by van to our second Second short stop, a waterfall, called POÇO DA GANCELA. After a walk around this area, we headed toward the village of Ermida where we visited another amazing viewpoint and then stopped for lunch at a small family restaurant called Casa do Criado. They made us feel so welcome and we were treated to a variety of local Portuguese rustic dishes, Green wine and a liqueur called Licor Beirão. The second half of the day was visiting another amazing Waterfall - CASCATA DO ARADO ALT. 750 followed by another fantastic viewpoint overlooking Geres and our highest view of the day just 8 miles from the Spanish border. Finally we headed toward the town of Gerês for a look around and coffee before heading back to Porto areiving back airing 530pm. All the views were amazing despite the weather and it just made me want to come back to see it’s beauty in a different light. With all the granite rock and foliage, it reminded me of the highlands of Scotland only warmer! Our guide is passionate about nature and is highly knowledgeable about the Gerês region. Francisco was a delight and had an excellent sense of humour. It really was like being on a tour with a small group of friends. I would highly recommend heading out on this tour if you have never seen this part of the world.

Great Tour guide. All of the locations are beautiful and highly recommend. Bring good Hiking or track shoes for the hikes.

This tour was absolutely amazing and will be one of the best experiences of life! The scenes are stunning and the leaves were absolutely gorgeous during the fall. Teresa, our tour guide, was charismatic and super knowledgeable. The tour is very small and personal, which I loved. There is a good mix of moderate climbing of rocks and hills and so be prepared to get some steps in - though most of the trip is by car. You will stop in the village to have one of the most amazing feasts of your life. They made incredible accommodations for me as a vegetarian and the food was some of the freshest I've ever had. Highly recommend this tour!

Carlos was such an amazing travel guide. He was very friendly, conversational, and went above and beyond to make this experience an unforgettable one. From telling us about the history and culture behind every corner of National Peneda Geres Park, to inviting us to an amazing lunch with so many delicious and nutritious food, and not to forget taking us to the border between Spain and Portugal! Carlos made sure that we were comfortable, safe, and having a good time. I will definitely recommend you to book this trip, it will be worth your time and money!
