Overview

This experience aims to provide an accessible tour through the central area of ​​Porto, recalling impactful moments that defined LGBTQIAP+ history in the city. Given by a gay person native to this city who has experienced these events throughout his 37 years of life. It's an intimate experience that focuses on the social evolution and awareness of the LGBTQIAP+ community over the years and how the city began its journey towards inclusion. We will embark together on a journey remembering facts and analyzing the paradox between two times and destinations in the history of the LGBTQIAP+ community: the 80s to the present day. We will visit different tourist spots that at first glance we would not realize their impact on the community and visit inclusive spaces. We will end with a conversation at one of the best known spots in Porto, where we can better understand the legacy and activism carried out by those who fought, so that this excursion could exist today in an openly gay way.

Itinerary

  • Campo 24 de Agosto Garden

    At the beginning of the tour, we pass by Campo 24 de Agosto where we will see the first location of the first LGBTQIA+ pride march.

    20 minutes

  • Rua de Santa Catarina

    In this place we will observe and analyze how time and tourism have changed one of the areas that impacted the LGBTQIA+ community.

    10 minutes

  • Praca da Republica

    After passing through one of the busiest streets, we will reflect a little in the square where the Pride march is currently starting, where we will see the TeĂłfilo Braga Garden and visit a bookshop dedicated to LGBTQIA+ themes. We'll talk about the importance of attending queer businesses.

    We will visit a bookshop linked to Diversity and Inclusion Books and the Importance of Queer Business. Where we can talk about some LGBT+ writers and their impact on society and representation in culture.

  • Praca Gomes Teixeira (Pass By)

    We will pass through a very busy area of ​​Porto. Where we will have several tourist references. It is also a place with a large concentration of students where we will talk about teaching and social changes linked to diversity and inclusion.

  • Tribunal da Relacao do Porto

    Almost arriving at the last location of our tour, we will pass in front of the Tribunal da Relação do Porto, where I explain some of the most important dates in the Queer History of the city and Country, in front of the statue of justice.

  • Chafariz das Virtudes

    We will finish at the Miradouro das Virtudes, a place known for its diversity, beauty and view over the Douro. Where we will relax a little and make a summary of our experiences and visions. I'll talk a little about my youth in the city and how I saw the Queer movement grow.

A hidden gem

It was a great experience. If you want to have a not so touristy experience that shows you a different side of Porto we really recommend this tour. Ricardo is a true activist and a very inspiring guide who answered all our questions. ❤️

Heartfelt LGBT Tour not to be missed

I recently went on an LGBT tour in Porto with Ricardo, and it was an unforgettable experience. Ricardo was incredibly open, sharing intimate stories from his own life, which made the tour feel personal and authentic. His openness created a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, and his knowledge of the city’s LGBTQIA+ history and culture was impressive. Ricardo's passion for both Porto and the LGBTQIA+ community truly shone through, making this tour not just informative but also deeply meaningful. Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to explore Porto through a unique and heartfelt lens.

What a pleasure it was to meet Ricardo and learn about Porto’s LGBT+ history - some of which is quite surprising and I’m still thinking about it the next day. He is a wonderful guide and is very knowledgeable and thoughtful - when I arrived I told him I was a bit fatigued due to a disability and he very kindly reduced the amount of walking involved and we proceeded a bit slower. Also he went ahead with the tour despite me being the only booking that day which is so nice (I’m sure he could have cancelled). Thank you Ricardo!

Amazing Tour! Very inspirational and moving. Ricardo is a very knowledgeable individual who has LGBT rights in his heart! A true activist! The tour was amazing! Ricardo was very knowledgable about the queer history of Porto! He shared many moving stories behind the LGBT history of Porto, LGBT rights and Porto Profe ! Very interesting person and a true activist! Very inspiring! he also runs the tour although i was the only person! Totally recommend the tour to any LGBT people or allies … or people who want to educate themselves in LGBT issues, rights and history!
