The project for a modern fortification to defend this stretch of the Portuguese coast dates back to the 14th century, with the construction of the Fort of Santiago do Outão, intended to control the river entrance.

The Arrábida Natural Park is a biogenetic reserve located on the Setúbal peninsula, covering the municipalities of Palmela, Setúbal and Sesimbra, with the highest altitude in Pico do Formosinho (501m altitude), in the district of Setúbal, in Portugal. It extends for 35 kilometers.

Had a fantastic time on this tour, my parents were super impressed with how knowledgeable our guide was with the area and all the sites were incredible. Would definitely recommend if you have limited time in Setubal to hit the main spots!

Nature, history, art, and wine!

What a wonderful day! I completely love the large market, with all of the fish, fresh fruit and cafes with coffee and pastries. Beautiful tiles, too. Beautiful nature to visit. It was so misty/ cloudy, that the monastery, seemed to magically appear from the solid impenetrable white cloud that blocked the view. A local lunch was tasty, before heading to visit a palace that is associated with a vineyard, learning about the rich, CENTURIES old history of the palace, followed with an art tour at the winery with an opportunity to see where the wine is stored. Ending with tasting three of the wines made by the winery. This tour is perfect for those who love nature, art, wine and a local experience. This is my third tour with Outing Portugal, and absolutely love the experience! I look forward to many, more adventures to explore this beautiful country.

This is my second time booking the Arrábida: Setúbal tour with Outing Portugal. This was my cousin's first trip to Portugal, and Diogo planned a wonderful tour of Setúbal for us. Touring the vineyard, fort, and countryside made for a magical day. He is very knowledgeable about the area and its history. He is a true professional, and this is evident in his work. Outing Portugal is the only company I will work with. They are the best! Thank you, Diogo; we had a wonderful time!
