Overview

Start your day by crossing the 25th of April Bridge towards the south bank of the Tagus river. The Setubal Peninsula offers its visitors the best of both worlds. A beautiful coastline with an emphasis on the Arrabida Mountain and its beaches painted in light shades of translucent blue, passing by the wineries where superior quality wines are produced. Discover Sesimbra with its beautiful bay and one of the main fishing ports in Portugal. Visit the Sesimbra Castle. A visit to Sesimbra cannot end without tasting its most typical sweet: Farinha Torrada. A family tradition associated with fishing activity. Continue along the summits of Arrabida Mountain and on your arrival in Setubal visit the Livramento Market where fresh products from the sea and land are sold from Tuesday to Sunday. A Wine and Cheese tasting will be waiting for you in a quiet environment at the Mourisca Tide Mill in the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve. On your return to Lisbon cross the Vasco da Gama Bridge.

    You will start the tour by crossing the Tagus River across the 25 de Abril Bridge, which was elected in 2014 as the most beautiful bridge in Europe by European Best Destination. Enjoy the crossing and see Lisbon from a new perspective

  • Sesimbra

    Picturesque fishing village located next to a sheltered bay. Sesimbra was founded at the top of the hill, around the castle of the Moors that the 1st king of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques, conquered in 1165. Its history dates back to antiquity and is still very present due to its monuments and fishing traditions. It remains to this day one of the main fishing ports in the region.

    On the way to Setubal, you will cross the Arrabida Natural Park, where you will have the opportunity to discover magnificent viewpoints overlooking the Sado river estuary. Let yourself be enchanted by the crystal clear waters and the view of the Troia Peninsula, on the south bank of the Sado. Continue along the summits of Arrabida Mountain and on your arrival in Setubal visit the Livramento Market where fresh products from the sea and land are sold from Tuesday to Sunday.

  • Mercado do Livramento

    It is considered one of the most famous fish markets in the world. Inaugurated in 1930, it features cast iron columns inside and walls covered in panels with 5700 typical Portuguese tiles depicting scenes from everyday life, such as fishing and agriculture. Those who visit it are not indifferent to the fresh products of the sea and land that are sold in this market.

    Now that the visit to Mercado do Livramento has whetted your appetite, you deserve to take a break to enjoy fresh grilled fish or the essential Choco Frito accompanied by French fries, a traditional dish from the Setubalense cuisine.

    Mourisca Tide Mill is located in the middle of the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, an area that is home to enormous biodiversity, namely birds. You will enjoy a breathtaking landscape. The guided tour held in the Sala das Mós, shows the history and operation of the grinding mills of Tide Mill. A Wine and Cheese tasting of Azeitão will be waiting for you in a quiet environment at the Mourisca Tide Mill in the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve.
