We particularly loved viewing the carved reliefs at the City Hall detailing Viking sagas. We probably wouldn't have discovered these on our own. Tanya, our guide, took us through the three main periods of Oslo's evolution history (Viking, Middle Ages, 1800's) showing us great views from the Opera House, the old city hall and the square it stood on, the fort, the present City Hall, Aker Brygge (where she showed us a presentation on salmon farming and helped us find a good restaurant), and the entire section of Oslo Fjord in the city. We had been to Vigeland Sculpture Park and the Royal Palace to see the changing of the guard, so she adapted the tour to show us things we hadn't yet seen. She was extremely knowlegeable of the city's history, stopping every few feet to give us another tidbit about what happened at this site or what details the guidebooks wouldn't. She was very accommodating to our pace and wishes. We could design the tour however we wanted depending on our interests , schedule, and energy. We took it our last day in Oslo. I suggest taking it your first. day to get a good idea of what you might want to go back and see. Tanya had lots of suggestions for museums, shopping, restaurants, and highlights. I highly recommend this tour.
