Overview

Being the most famous wooden polar vessel in the world, Fram is a symbol of Norway's significant participation in the heroic age of exploration. The centerpiece of the museum is the world´s strongest wooden ship, the polar ship Fram. The public can go on board and take a look around in her cabins, lounges, cargo hold and engine room. Note: This ticket is for the Fram Museum only. Combination tickets with Kon-Tiki or the Norwegian Maritime Museum has to be purchased on site in either of the three museums.

  • Fram Museum

    The main exhibition in the Fram building has explanatory texts in ten languages and describes the three great Fram expeditions. In June 2013 we inaugurated our new Gjøa building, which is connected to the Fram with an underground tunnel. The centerpiece here is Gjøa, the first ship to navigate the whole of the Northwest Passage. There are brand new historical exhibitions on the expeditions of Gjøa and Maud, of the airplanes N24 and N25 as well as of the airship Norge, John Franklin's legendary expedition and those of Henry Larsen and Eivind Astrup. We also present current issues facing the High North such as polar bears, ice melting, gas and oil etc. There is a 116 seats cinema showing a polar introduction movie every fifteen minutes.

Amazing!!! If you are going to Oslo you HAVE to visit! So much info, amazingly interactive and a beautiful setting. Highly recommend for all ages.

Wow! This museum is impressive. Not only do they have a massive ship inside of the building, but there are so many other historical facts linked to the ship that you could spend the whole day reading about everything. The interactivity of the exhibits were really fun, including an arctic simulation area, where you can certainly cool down if it's a warm day. I highly recommend visiting this museum.

Really interesting. We learned a lot. Such a great perk that the original boat is set inside the museum and that we are able to visit. The gift shop had also a selection of great reading material to purchase.

Great museum in a lovely location

We took the bus trip to this part of Oslo which was in itself a fun journey. The museum is out on a peninsular and is one of three at the site. It is a well laid out, interesting museum with lots of information and multimedia displays. The ship itself is fascinating and being able to go in it and explore really does make it all come alive. On the outside, the grounds are lovely with views out into the bay, we were there whilst it was icy and snowing which made it especially lovely.

A dream experience for everyone interested in Nordic maritime history!

A remarkably well set up museum, with so much information for all the events that took place around this ship and others in the same time. Mixed in with a great playground-type environment for children to look around, interact with and so on. Great effects and lighting. Definitely worth a visit! Especially with the whole ship being in there parked AND you can walk in and around it!
