Overview

Ideal for people who have little time to visit the city of Oaxaca and want to explore the most emblematic places in the surrounding area in terms of nature, gastronomy, culture and natural beauty, since we will visit Hier el agua very early to avoid crowds and tour the only place in the world that has petrified waterfalls, we will try the local cuisine at lunch time in a local market, we will appreciate the effort and value of making wool rugs, one of the most important Oaxacan crafts and finally we will admire natural beauties as is the Tule tree, which is the widest tree in the world; The goal is to show you the beauty of Oaxaca by traveling like a local and that at the end of the tour you can take away a better perspective of the essence of Oaxaca.

Itinerary

  • Hierve el Agua

    We start early visiting Hierve el Agua, at the beginning we will go to its pools to learn about the petrification process of water and take great photos there with few people around us, then we will go hiking with the aim of admiring the landscapes and privileged views From this place. At the end of the tour, we will return to the pool area to swim and enjoy a moment of relaxation.

  • Mercado Tlacolula

    We will have lunch inside the market, there we will eat one of the typical dishes of the region, already included. At the end, we will take a short tour to learn more about the market.

  • Teotitlan del Valle

    We will visit a traditional Oaxacan crafts workshop, there we will learn about the process of making and natural inking of the famous wool rugs.

    Finally, we will visit the town of Santa Maria del Tule and there we will see the legendary Tule tree, which is the widest in the world and is more than 2000 years old.

Exceptional Experience

This was hands down one of the best tours we’ve been on in recent years. I did extensive research online and talked to some local guides in Oaxaca before choosing this one and it did not disappoint. The tour was an amazing blend of stunning natural scenery, the warmth of local communities, immersive cultural traditions, and delightful food. Everything was well-organized, with the right pace and plenty of pleasant surprises along the way. We didn’t have to stress about any of the logistics because everything was taken care of so we could just enjoy this experience. Our guides Gilberto and Lupita were just awesome! They were friendly, knowledgeable, and approachable. You can tell how much they love sharing their culture, and they made us feel a real connection with the local people in Oaxaca. We enjoyed all the conversations we had with them. They also intentionally kept the group size small, which meant that everyone got a chance to chat and get to know each other. Fabulous work!

An amazing experience all around! The tour sights were all amazing and well explained. The tour was done at a great pace, we never felt rushed or like we missed out on something. The energy Beto and Lupita had was great and welcoming and allowed for the group to connect naturally. This has been the best tour experience I’ve been on and would recommend this to everyone looking to get a full experience while staying in Oaxaca.

If you are considering booking this tour, I really wouldn’t bother continuing your arduous google search for the best ‘Oaxaca tour’. You’ve found it! I truly do not know how our experience could have been any better. Gilberto and Lupita were the best tour guides we’ve ever had. They felt like old friends right from the start, which really is a testament to their kind nature and open hearts. The thing we long for when we are travelling is of course, learning about local cultures and ways of life (the list is endless really), but the special part, and the one that means the most, is finding a real connection with local people. We felt a special connection to these two from the moment we arrived which made the day so much more special and memorable. This tour starts early and is worth every minute out of bed, I promise! You get the Heirve Al Agua all to yourselves which is absolutely not normal (this place gets rammed!) The hike afterwards is breathtaking and the information and knowledge shared was fantastic. Every aspect of the tour is considered even down to taking us to clean bathrooms, mucho gracias! The lunch stop is so cool; Seeing the Zapotec market and learning about the local community was really a highlight for us. Going and doing these things without Berto and Lupita would have lacked so much context and meaning. The interactions between Gilberto and the local Zapotec people was so beautiful and very special to witness. Next was Teotitlan del Valle, where we met Rossaria, who taught us all about how she and the other artisans in her cooperative make textiles. We purchased a rug from here, as did everyone on our tour, it is such an amazing memory and piece of this beautiful place that we will have with us when we return to London. Finally, the el Arbol del Tule, which I have to say was the thing I was the least excited about, but it was INCREDIBLE! By the end of this tour, I was full of gratitude and love for this place, even more so than before the tour, and very sad to say goodbye. This tour is just magical, from start to finish and that’s all thanks to the way Gilberto and Lupita run their tours, Thank you so much you two, you are truly wonderful!!

Roberto and Lupita were AMAZING! We were a bit hesitant with how long the tour was but at the end we did not want it to end. They were experts at hosting us, never leaving us feeling like we needed ANYTHING including food and “clean and free bathrooms”. Aside from the amazing places and experiences they provided, perhaps more importantly and definitely more endearing was their friendship and hearts. They absolutely loved sharing their home and culture with us and it showed in everything about this tour. Our group of 8 was the perfect size and we very much felt connected right from the beginning which is an absolute testimony to how Lupita and Roberto run their tours.
