Overview

Begin your tour in Praça do Comércio, an imposing square facing the blue Tagus river, Lisbon’s entrance for vessels by the time of the Discoveries. Travel through the 18th century downtown, rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake. Climb up the hills on the way to hilltop monuments, enter the narrow streets of Alfama, the very 1st quarter of Lisbon full of roman remains, arabic influences and details that inspired the Fado songs, the 12th century imposing Cathedral and the St. Georges Castle crowning the hill. Great way to see Lisbon

We heard that we needed to watch out for pickpocketers on the street car, and maybe we were just lucky, but there was no problem. The line was long and it was confusing as an American tourist to figure out if we were even on the right tram. It turned out to be a really cool experience! Get a window seat, take in all the beautiful city views and enjoy the wild ride. It’s loud and bumpy and fun! The tram goes through some narrow streets and gets so close to the old buildings! Lisbon is safe and loaded with charm.

Having a guaranteed seat. Not having to queue. Strange as it may sound seeing the benefits and drawbacks of trams - a public one broke down, an ambulance blocked the track and a badly parked vehicle caused a backup of trams!

We had a terrific driver with a lovely sense of humour. It was fascinating to see the different areas of Lisbon and how the character of the areas changed. Beautiful wide open squares on a blue sky day! The cobbled streets and decorated squares and flowering jacaranda trees were vibrant. A trip to remember.
