Overview

Discover the history and natural beauty of Portugal on a small-group day trip to Fátima, Nazaré and Óbidos from Lisbon. One of the most important Christian sites in the world, Fátima is home to the Sanctuary of Fatima, which honors the 1917 apparition of Our Lady of Fatima (another name for the Virgin Mary). After your visit, you’ll explore the coastal fishing town of Nazaré and the medieval village of Óbidos, stopping at the Batalha Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on the way. Enjoy picturesque views of the Atlantic Ocean and agricultural landscapes as you travel along the dramatic cliffs of the Portugal coast. Throughout your tour, you’ll learn interesting facts and hear stories from your guide.

Please meet our guide in front of the Hard Rock Cafe. Most of the times the guide will park the vehicle in a underground parking lot, so don't worry if you don't see any vehicles approaching.

What To Expect

1. Basilica de Nossa Senhora do Rosario de Fatima Get comfortable in an air-conditioned vehicle as you start your journey toward the town of Fátima, a once-sleepy rural village that became an important pilgrimage site when three shepherd children reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary in 1917. Visit the Sanctuary of Fatima, a basilica that honors the apparition and attracts millions of Catholic pilgrims every year who go to pay their respects to the shrine 1 hour

2. Batalha Monastery Next, visit the 14th-century Batalha Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that illustrates the rich artistic heritage of the late 1300s. Discover the impressive royal burial site at the basilica’s Founder’s Chapel, where King João I, Queen Philippa of Lancaster and their son Prince Henry the Navigator were buried. Note that we only visit the main church area, which is free of charge. To visit the whole structure (which we don't have much time), cloisters included, an additional charge is required (to be paid by the client directly to the local ticket office). 40 minutes

3. A stop to enjoy the old town of Nazaré, site of miracles, visions and one of the best views of the Portuguese coastline. 20 minutes

4. Praia da Nazare Take a short break for lunch (own expense) in Nazaré, a quaint fishing town famous for its variety of restaurants and cafes. A popular summer retreat for the Portuguese, the village offers an interesting insight into local life. Short stop at the Nazaré cliffs to see the ocean views 2 hours

5. Obidos Village Finally, make your way to the medieval village of Óbidos. Founded in 208 BC, Óbidos is commonly known in Portugal as the 'wedding present town', as it was a gift from King Dinis to Queen Isabel on their wedding day in 1282. Follow your guide to one of the numerous wine shops and sample the Ginja liqueur, and then enjoy free time to explore the village’s medieval fortress, narrow streets, colorful houses and Gothic doorways and windows decorated with flowerpots and dazzling tiles. Grab a snack or browse around the tiny shops that offer a varied collection of beautiful handmade ceramic art before making your way back to Lisbon. 1 hour

Tom and i had a wonderful day we were very impressed with our tour guide he gave us extra time at Nazare as we wanted to walk down to the museum, he came back and picked us up after the rest of the group went for lunch He also helped us get the correct taxi and gave the taxi the details of our hotel so we could get home safely

The tour was well-planned and an efficient way to visit Fatima. The other sites were an added bonus. The group was small and extremely pleasant. The tour guide/driver couldn’t have been more kind, patient and charming. Overall a great day of unforgettable exploration !

Inside Lisbon - Fatima/Nazarene/Obidios

Hello we had a nice group tour with Inside Lisbon to Fatima, Nazarene, and Obidios with Inside Lisbon was very nice. Nice clean mini van made our travel very comfortable. Our driver Rui was excellent and made the traveling to and between informative and fun. While he did not walk us around each venue, he did give us insights to each location before sending us out on our own. Each of the locations was nice. For my family and I Fatima was probably the least impactful. Of course if you are devout this would be a special place. Both Nazare and Obidios provided a great view of Portugal’s past with some incredible views and experiences. Hats off again to our driver Rui for a super day. You could tell he really enjoys what he is doing.
