Overview

Delight in views of idyllic villages on this 1-day tour from Kanazawa to World Heritage Shirakawago and Takayama. At Shirakawago, enjoy seeing the seasonal scenery of a quaint village of thatch-roofed houses, and at Takayama, take a walk around the old town where traditional Japanese-style townhouses and traces of the Edo period (1603-1868) still remain. Time will be allotted to explore Shirakawago, allowing customers to enjoy local cuisine, take photos, and spend time as they please. With a private vehicle used for transfers, enjoy efficiently visiting Shirakawago and Takayama in comfort. In addition, drop-off is available at Takayama Station, so those planning to go to Nagoya, Tokyo, or Kyoto after sightseeing in Takayama can feel free to participate.

Itinerary

  • Shirakawago

    This is one of the thatch-roofed house villages, also registered as a World Heritage Site. Look around and be fascinated by the culture and history of the village. After visiting a thatch-roofed house, customers are free to stroll around. Meal is not included. Please enjoy the local cuisine on your own during this break. A shuttle bus (additional charges apply) runs to the Shirakawago observation deck. For those who would like to use this service, please pay at the location. Depending on weather conditions, shuttle bus operation may be suspended.

  • Takayama Festival Floats Exhibition Hall

    This popular facility displays some of the colorfully decorated festival floats used in the famous Takayama Festival. Enjoy seeing the many intricately made floats.

  • Kusakabe Folk Museum

    Enjoy a visit to this historical Japanese-style townhouse and view a range of exquisite folk art and traditional handicrafts.

  • Kamisannomachi

    Located in the heart of the castle town, the old streets of this area which originally developed as a merchant town, retain traces from the Edo period (1603-1868), and are a must-see for visitors.

  • Takayama Station

    A stop may be made at Takayama Station for drop-off. Please inform the tour guide in the morning on the day if you would like to be dropped off at Takayama Station. There will be no drop-off at Takayama Station if no notice has been made.

A great experience!

This was a great experience! Our tour guide, Asa, was very friendly, informative, and enthusiastic. She kept things moving in a timely fashion, and provided us a great balance of free time and structured tour. Mr. Sakashita was a very smooth driver as well. I highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to see these historical sites in an efficient day. November was a bit chilly for us, but the fall colors made all these beautiful historical sites even more beautiful.

Interesting history and cultural experience

We had a great time with our tour guide, Asa, who was able to explain the history and cultural significance of the sights. There were only 6 guests total on the tour, so Asa was able to provide individual attention and answer questions. Our driver was very courteous and safe.

Well worthwhile day trip from Kanazawa

A most enjoyable and worthwhile trip. A very knowledgeable and articulate English- speaking Japanese guide and very helpful and competent driver. It was good to have enough free time to explore Shirakawago and Takayama after our tour guide had done the initial tour highlights.

We loved the natural beauty of the towns and it's rich culture!
