Itinerary

  • Foro Romano

It is a rectangular forum surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome. Citizens of the ancient city referred to this space, originally a marketplace, as the Forum Magnum, or simply the Forum.

    1 hour

  • Tempio di Romolo (Pass By)

It is another rare example of a well-preserved Roman monument. It's intact because it was turned into the entrance to the Church of Saints Cosma and Damiano, still functioning today

  • Casa delle Vestali

It was the residence of Vestal Virgins, located behind the circular Temple of Vesta at the eastern edge of the Roman Forum, between the Regia and the Palatine Hill. The domus publica, where the Pontifex Maximus dwelled, was located near the Atrium until that role was assumed by the emperors.

    10 minutes

  • Tempio di Saturno (Pass By)

Its ruins stand at the foot of the Capitoline Hill at the western end of the Roman Forum. The original dedication of the temple is traditionally dated to 497 BC, but ancient writers disagreed greatly about the history of this site.

  • Basilica of Maxentius

It is an ancient building in the Roman Forum. It was the largest building in the Forum, and the last Roman basilica built in the city.

    10 minutes

  • Basilica Julia

It was a structure that once stood in the Roman Forum. It was a large, ornate, public building used for meetings and other official business during the Roman Empire.

    10 minutes

  • Palatine Hill

It is one of the most ancient parts of the city and has been called "the first nucleus of the Roman Empire." The site is now mainly a large open-air museum while the Palatine Museum houses many finds from the excavations here and from other ancient Italian sites.

    30 minutes

  • Piazza del Colosseo

It is a square in the center of Rome between Via dei Fori Imperiali and Via Claudia. It is located on the border of rione Monti, Campitelli and Celio districts. The square can be reached from the Colosseo Metro Station on the B line of the Rome Metro.

    5 minutes

  • Arch of Constantine (Pass By)

Built in 315AD and noted by its triple arches, this structure commemorates Constantine's victory over Maxentuis.

  • Colosseum

Perhaps the best-preserved of the monuments of ancient Rome, this huge marble structure was built to hold more than 50,000 spectators to witness bloody contests of might and the slaughter of wild beasts.

Awesome tour & experience!

Published on Jan, 2025

Our tour with Paolo was absolutely wonderful (as our 17-year old daughter put it)! We were super lucky that our small group tour ended up being just the 3 of us (thank you for not cancelling!). Paolo is an archaeologist, so who better to do a tour of the Forum & Colosseum? We learned so much from him. We had an early morning (9:15am) tour, and the Forum was delightfully uncrowded. Once we got to the Colosseum it was great to be able to skip the line to get in. There were so many lines I would never have been able to figure it out on my own. Highly recommend; would love to have Paolo guide any tour when we come back to Rome.

Excellent tour of Colosseum and Forum

The tour of the Colosseum and the Forum with Ricardo was wonderful. Ricardo is a historian and his knowledge added a great deal to the tour. He answered questions and added a few extras like looking out over the circus maximus upon request. It was a fun and pleasant 3 hour tour. My husband and 18 year old daughter also greatly enjoyed Ricardo’s tour. Thank you for a great memory and a reliable investment!

Detailed and informative....excellent tour!

Very detailed and informative tour....without it the ruins are a jumble of old rocks. Really brought ancient Rome to life and gave me a deeper understanding of the history here.

Must do!

Highly recommend! We did a tour of the Roman Forum and Colosseum, and our tour guide, Valentina, was absolutely wonderful. The Forum is such a complex site with so much to take in—going alone, especially without a background in Roman history, could easily feel overwhelming. Having a dedicated guide to walk you through the history in a small, private, group setting (not to mention being able to quickly enter the Colosseum without waiting in a ridiculous line) was invaluable. However, if you're passionate about history, consider returning on your own afterward to explore even further at your own pace.
