    1 hour

  • Tokyo International Forum

This postmodern masterpiece, the work of Uruguay-born American architect Rafael Viñoly, is the first major convention and art center of its kind in Tokyo. It is considered as one of Japan’s most important modern cultural buildings.

    15 minutes

  • Roppongi

There are some art galleries and the three points of what’s known as Art Triangle Roppongi―the National Art Center, Mori Art Museum, and Suntory Museum of Art. The neighborhood is also home to the Fujifilm Square photo gallery, 21_21 Design Sight, and many other art and cultural events. The stuning Tokyo National Art Center is close to here. It is designed by famous architect named Kisho Kurokawa.

    1 hour

  • Omotesando

With Tokyo's impressive array of high-end fashion and jewelry stores has come an equally astonishing collection of beautiful buildings. Start at the Prada flagship store created by The Swiss-based Herzog & de Meuron team is a beautiful glass building. Across the street they reprised their hit with the new Miu Miu flagship in 2015, made of aluminum and brass. Next door are glittery buildings for Chloé and Cartier. Part of Chloé's facade is hidden behind wooden bamboolike slits that tilt and jut high into the air at random. Famous Pineapple cake shop Sunny Hills is spiky wooden building designed by the Japan’s leading architect Kengo Kuma. Dior Omotesando is designed by Pritzker Architecture Prize recipients Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of SANAA. Moving projections play on the building during most of the year.

    1 hour

  • Takeshita Street

Harajuku will give you some insight into the youth culture of Japan. You will see unique fashion trends and outrageous design in fashion and buildings.

    1 hour

  • Shibuya

Shibuya crossing is the busiest intersection in the world. It makes Times Square seem like a sleepy village.

    30 minutes

  • Daikanyama

Daikanyama and Nakameguro are filled with numerous boutiques and cafes. They have a different atmosphere and less hectic pace than more famous places in the city. Tsutaya book store located in this area is designed by Klein and Dytham who worked at Toyo Ito & Associates, Architects.

Something Different

Published on Sep, 2024

A slightly different tour but one I can highly recommend. A great way to see some interesting areas in Tokyo as well as some magnificent buildings. Umi was a great guide and very easy to spend a day with . We saw some fantastic buildings and I really enjoyed our visits to the National Art Centre and Taro Okamoto Memorial Museum.

Our First Visit to Tokyo

Published on Apr, 2024

Had a great time with Gen Outech. Got us going by taking us to Tokyo subway system then down to the Kokyo Gaien National Garden and then walk around the garden passing the South Gate entrance of the main keep of Edo castle. Then we continued to Chiyoda-Marunouchi Train station. From there we walk to the Tokyo International forum and walked around the entire building. Gen showed us the different parts of the area and also showed us where the “bullet train” station was located. After walking around the forum, we heading to a local electronics store (Bic Camera) and bought some goodies to take home. I was surprised at all the electronic gadgets in this store. Then we asked Gen to take us to a local shopping area. Gen took us to Chuo-Ginza 6. A very high end stores and with lots of selection to choose from. We bought lots of stuff from this shopping center. Great place to see and experience the large crowds of people just walking and shopping. From here walk down a few more blocks and found this local Japanese restaurant. Interesting location, but good food at a reasonable price. After all the walking and eating lunch; my wife and I decided to just go back to our hotel and end our day with Gen. He gave us two more places we can explore on our own we did that. After taking a short break, me and my wife took a local taxi and headed to Sensouji Temple. Another place that you should really see and experience. But be prepared because there are lots of people.
