Discover the story of a town carved into rocks which was inhabited until the XX century. You will have the opportunity to visit a cave-house recently opened to the public, have access to ancient rupestrian churches. Matera is a unique place but also an experience to live. You will meet the local and expert tourist guide in the city center where the tour will start to discover this UNESCO site. Walk through the two main districts dug into the rocks where there are cave-houses and rupestrian churches. During this tour, admire the panoramic view over the Murgia Materana Park from the balconies and discover the Matera origins, one of the oldest European city. Then, reach one of the highest point of the Sassi and visit the Cathedral.

Excellent tour of an amazing city

Our tour guide, Mario Padula, was excellent. Accommodated our request to meet at the hotel, was well-versed in all to be seen in Mara having been born there. We could not have asked for a more experienced and kind guide.
