We start on foot from the main square of the historic center, Piazza Vittorio Veneto, with a panoramic view of the Sasso Barisano. Continue through the historic center until you reach Piazza Duomo where it will be possible to view the Cathedral externally and then enter the Sasso Caveoso.

Wonderful french tour of Matera with Francesco

We had a wonderful tour of Matera with our guide Francesco. Francesco is a very knowledgeable, resourceful, friendly and considerate guide. He provided us very interesting information about his town Matera. Matera is not an easy town to visit because of all the stairs to climb and especially because of the stones that are very slippery. Francesco guided us with a respectable slow pace, always mindfull of the challenges of the road/sidewalk. He always made sure that we were all together, waiting sometimes for others to catch up, always making sure that we were safe, confirming that we were all right and through all that, brilliantly informing us of the incredible history Matera has.

Rain or shine, this tour is worth it!

During a trip to Italy in April 2024, we booked this guided tour in advance. Since rain was forecasted for our afternoon in Matera, the tour company reached out and offered us the opportunity to reschedule. However, our plans couldn't accomodate this change. Thankfully, the tour guide was still willing to meet up with us, so we went for it! After a quick stop to buy an umbrella, our walk in Matera started with rain, but we got lucky as it really didn't last long. Our guide was a proud local, which is special as he understands and appreciates both the old and the new. He kept us engaged with his knowledge and even asked us some questions along the way. The sites we visited were truly amazing and the views were stunning. Matera is an ancient city unlike anything you've ever seen and is truly worth your time, especially when accompanied by the perfect tour guide!

We took the personal guided tour with Simone. We were in Matera for the first time and the decision to take a professional guide was the excellent choice. Simone told us a lot about the history, geology and the way of living in Sassi. Very appreciate and recommend it
