Although this tour may not be on the top of most people's list when they travel to Porto, it certainly is highly worthwhile if you have the time and are interested in history and seeing some of the smaller towns in Northern Portugal. Our driver/guide, Pedro, was excellent and before we got far out of Porto, we stopped in his hometown near the beach to see the Portuguese fishermen in the early morning bringing in their catch. Very enlightening and fascinating to watch. Then on to Barcelos, Ponte de Lima and Viana do Castelo, all very quaint and interesting places to visit. Ponte de Lima has medieval structures and it was where we had a terrific lunch in a Portuguese restaurant. It was quiet during the week, but I understand it is much busier on the weekends. In Viana do Castelo, we had a choice of visiting the hospital ship museum apparently a disappointment and the costume museum, which I enjoyed going through. This was a CooltoursPorto organized trip, and I have always found their tours and guides to be top notch, but the company needs to spring for a microphone for the driver/guide, so people in the back of the van can hear the narrative better.
