Owakudani is the area around a crater created during the last eruption of Mount Hakone some 3000 years ago. Today, much of the area is an active volcanic zone where sulfurous fumes and hot springs can be experienced. It also has good views of Mount Fuji on clear days. Eggs cooked in Owakudani's hot spring pools with their shells blackened by the sulfur are on sale at shops in the area, and eating one is said to prolong one's life by seven years. Amazing Mt. Fuji Tour with Umi!

I just got back from a tour of Mt. Fuji, and it was incredible! Our guide, Umi, made the experience truly unforgettable. From the start, her warm personality and excitement set the tone for the day. I also have to mention our second guide Yousuke who was amazing too. Umi shared fascinating stories about Mt. Fuji and took the time to connect with everyone in our group. She went above and beyond, encouraging us to enjoy the breathtaking views and making sure we were all having a great time. She went above and beyond every way possible. She took white glove service to the next level, and was so flexible and accommodating to us. The warmth she had and put into our experience was second to none. If you’re thinking about a Mt. Fuji tour, I highly recommend it—especially with Umi as your guide! You won't regret it! She took us to Gotemba shopping outlets after I would recommend, there is just to many shops so plan what you want to see. PS, ask her to sing she has the most amazing voice!
Life-Changing and Highly Recommended Tour!!

I took part in a solo, private tour with the Outech touring company and their guide, Riley (Ryoko). She was an absolute professional from pick-up to drop-off. I cannot recommend her enough for her courteousness, and cultural and historical expertise. If you choose to do the Mt. Fuji Tour, I would suggest avoiding weekends and national holidays as it can get crowded. On a Wednesday afternoon before Christmas, there was only about a hundred or so people in the area which is pretty good. I got lucky as the weather was beautiful, sunny, mostly cloudless, and not too cold. If you go in the winter, I suggest bringing warm clothes as the outside temperature will be around freezing at the 5th Station of Mt. Fuji. The weather around the mountain itself can be very tempermental, so picking the right day to go may be challenging. Once again, I got lucky as the volcano was fully exposed from almost every angle or place we stopped along the tour. It was absolutely awe-inspiring. Hakone is also beautiful, and known for it's bathhouses (onsens). The nearby Owakudani is fun to visit if you don't mind walking near an active volcano that reeks of sulphur. You get used to it after a few minutes. No lava, but a lot of steam spewing from the ground. Tours are available onsite to hike further up the volcano if you choose, but that's separate from the private tour. You can also partake in eating a hard-boiled egg cooked from the heat of the volcano itself, giving the eggshell it's famous "black" egg look. There are souvenir shops all over if you want to bring authentic, handmade Japanese crafts, such as chopsticks or a saki drink, set home with you. There are a lot of places to visit in Hakone, so I would discuss what your options are with your tour guide. It's much more relaxed than Toyko, and a very pleasant place to visit away from all the chaos in the city. I highly recommend this tour if you want a good mix of natural and cultural beauty.
Pampered in Hakone!

Our driver Soya was terrific. Car comfortable, excellent driver on windy roads and was always there just when we needed him. Toshi our guide was also excellent! She was knowledgeable about the area found a great place for a ramen lunch and took care of everything. Both spoke excellent English.
