From start to finish, this tour was seamless and unforgettable. The pickup was smooth, and our guide, Abe, truly elevated the experience. He was incredibly thoughtful about the early pickup time, allowing guests to rest during the ascent, which made those pre-dawn hours much more manageable. Throughout the journey, Abe prioritized safety and comfort, ensuring everyone felt at ease on the winding roads to the summit.
What really set Abe apart was his deep knowledge and passion for the traditions and culture of Haleakala. His stories and insights added so much depth to the experience, making it not just a stunning sunrise but also a meaningful one. He also made sure that we were positioned for the best view of the main event.
Another detail that really stood out: Valley Isle was the only company I noticed that provided fleece-lined ponchos for guests at the summit. With the wind and cold being no joke, this extra care was truly appreciated. We dressed in layers but still wished we had even more—especially gloves—so having those ponchos made a big difference.
That said, watching the sun rise over Haleakala’s crater was absolutely breathtaking and worth every chilly moment.
Breakfast afterward was the perfect way to end the tour. The venue was a hidden gem we’d never have found on our own, with fantastic food and a welcoming atmosphere. My husband ordered the macadamia nut pancakes, and I had the plantation breakfast. Let me just say, if you’re debating, go for the pancakes. The plantation breakfast was good, but those macadamia nut pancakes? Simply unforgettable.
Overall, this tour was an absolute highlight of our trip. If you have the chance to go—and especially if you get Abe as your guide—don’t hesitate. You won’t regret it!
