Overview

Witness the dawning of a new day atop Haleakala (the house of the sun) a dormant volcanic mountain overlooking Maui on the east side. Deep canyons and slopes and unspoiled terrain are home to endemic Hawaiian Nene geese and rare Silversword plants. You'll be transported in a comfortable mini coach to 9,740 feet elevation, close to the summit to witness the ultimate sunrise; a spectacular show of lights and colors. IMPORTANT: Access is restricted to Lahaina on the west side of Maui. The tour times provided reflect the start and end of the tour, but not your exact pickup and drop off time. Whether or not you've provided your hotel/lodging at the time of booking, you are required to contact the ... tour provider no less than (2) days prior to your tour date to receive your exact pickup time and location. The tour provider will advise you of the specific area at the hotel/lodging you should wait; for example "at the front entrance." Please be there at least 5 minutes before your pickup time. Please allow a 10-15 minute grace period, as the driver will be picking up other guests in your area. If your hotel/lodging is not included on our pickup schedule, you'll be advised to meet at nearby location. Haleakala is known for rapidly changing weather conditions and dense clouds and rain are common. As a result, clear viewing of the sunrise is not guaranteed, and the tour operates rain or shine. Refunds will be granted only when the tour is cancelled for safety reasons.
The high altitude at the summit area may complicate health conditions and breathing difficulties. Elderly visitors, pregnant women, young children, and those with respiratory or heart conditions should consult their doctor prior to touring. Walk slowly and drink water to avoid dehydration. If you have gone scuba diving, you should wait at least 72 hours before going on this tour.

Dress warm and enjoy the sunrise!!!

Dress warm!! Like you are in the Arctic! It was about 30 degrees and high winds (think wind chill……). We’re from western NY and are used to the January cold, but many people were wearing shorts, wrapped in blankets and plastic rain coats. Getting up at 215am is sooo worth it for the reward of the spectacular sunrise you will see!! Our driver (Preston ) was super knowledgeable and was very delightful in his delivery of all the cool facts about Maui and Haleakala. The breakfast at a local restaurant at the base of the volcano was delicious! Best pancakes I’ve ever had!! I highly recommend this tour!

Miserable but worth it!

Our driver, Preston was great! We felt safe and entertained on our trip. Unfortunately it was cloud covered, very windy, cold, and very wet. We didn’t see the sun at all but do not regret taking the trip. Prepare for wind chills in the single digits and very wet conditions. Some people had been fortunate enough to see the sunrise previously and suggested it was so spectacular. It is worth trying again if we are ever back in Maui. For breakfast, the pancakes were amazing. The plantation breakfast was mediocre at best.

Our tour guide, Preston, was spectacular! Not only getting us to Haleakala, but on the way down gave us very fun information about Maui and the area! Very smooth ride up and down the mountain! Please, if the tour says dress warm, dress warmer than expected! I am from the Midwest and wore a hoodie and winter hat and was still cold! We were told it was one of the warmer days as well. Wear layers and over dress for the weather! Overall, amazing experience. Once in a lifetime chance to see an amazing wonder if our planet.

A MUST DO activity if you visit Maui! Preston gave a spectacular tour of the most breathtaking sunrise at Haleakala! He was extremely knowledgeable about the history & culture of the island. 10/10 recommend! - Just be sure to bundle up, because it's way colder than they tell you!

Very nice bus, amazing views and history, and even local breakfast! Only thing to emphasize is to dress much warmer than you think as it was extremely cold at the top!!
