Itinerary

  • Royal Palace of Madrid

The largest royal palace in Western Europe is a must-visit for all.Home to the Kings of Spain from Charles III to Alfonso XIII, Madrid's Royal Palace takes us on a journey through the history of Spain. Though it is no longer the royal family's home, it continues to be their official residence.

    5 minutes

  • Museo de la Catedral de la Almudena

This imposing church and the Royal Palace nearby form one of Madrid’s most popular tourist attractions.Madrid's cathedral, which stands in Hapsburg Madrid, has a short but tortuous history. The first plans for the church were drawn up in 1879 by Francisco de Cubas, who wanted to create a pantheon for the late Queen Maria de la Mercedes. The foundation stone was laid in 1883, but when Pope Leo XIII granted a bull in 1885 for the creation of the Madrid-Alcalá bishopric, the plans for the church were changed to become plans for a cathedral.

    5 minutes

  • Museo Nacional del Prado

The Prado Museum, which is commemorating its 200th anniversary this year, is the crown jewel of one of the city’s most popular tourist itineraries: the Paseo del Arte, where you'll also find the Thyssen-Bornemisza and Reina Sofía museums. The Prado's walls are lined with masterpieces from the Spanish, Italian and Flemish schools, including Velázquez’ Las Meninas and Goya’s Third of May, 1808. Its collection comprises 8,600 paintings and over 700 sculptures, so we recommend deciding what you want to see before stepping into the museum. If you are short on time, the Prado's website suggests three itineraries, lasting 1, 2 and 3 hours and covering the museum's most important masterpieces.

  • Templo de Debod

Temple of Debod templo_deblod_1.jpg templo_deblod_2.jpg templo_de_debod_3.jpg siempre_gratis.jpg Anterior Siguiente Description Information(active tab) Services Map This is an Egyptian temple dating back to the 2nd century BC, transported to Madrid’s Cuartel de la Montaña Park. The temple was donated to Spain by the Egyptian government to save it from floods following the construction of the great Aswan Dam.

  • Plaza Mayor

This arcaded square located in the historical centre of the city is the heart of Hapsburg Madrid.

    5 minutes

  • Parque del Retiro

El Retiro Park is the real star of this neighbourhood, bordered by Calle de Alcalá and Calle O’Donnell to the north, Doctor Esquerdo to the east, Avenida del Mediterráneo and Paseo de Reina Cristina to the south, and Calle de Alfonso XII to the west. The park was developed under the Catholic Monarchs, in the early sixteenth century, but the neighbourhood itself is much younger. With an increasingly larger population in the late nineteenth century, the city expanded. The layout of Retiro is similar to that of neighbouring Barrio de Salamanca, featuring perpendicular streets with wide pavements, some of them embellished as attractive boulevards, like Ibiza or Alcalde Sainz de Baranda. It’s basically a residential area but, being so close to the centre of Madrid, it’s borrowed some of its business and shopping character. Visitors coming to Madrid can’t miss El Retiro Park and its surroundings, filled with cultural attractions, restaurants and shops. Fun Day!

Published on Sep, 2024

Loved the ride. Really enjoyed seeing the city by bike, riding through Retiro Park and having a lovely break for coffee and tapas. Our tour guide was excellent.

An excellent bike tour of Madrid

Published on Aug, 2024

What a wonderful bike tour! We rented e-bikes, which made the (few) hills easy. From start to finish, this was a fantastic three hours. The little guy at the shop who sorted the bikes out was very helpful (be nice, arrive early!). Our guide was Ron, originally from California, and a resident of Madrid for more than 20 years. Ron was FANTASTIC! He was a very informative guide, and considerate, too, always checking that everyone was okay, showing us places for water and offering to take photos. His historical knowledge was impressive and he gave us just the right amount of information to keep the tour peppy. We loved the more gossipy stuff too, like finding about the Duchessa de Alba (complete with photos, hilarious!). The 3 hours flew by, and we saw some incredible things. It was quite a hot day, so ending up in the Retiro Park was a good choice. If only we could have spent longer with this great guide. Thank you, Ron! Thank you, Trixi Bikes! Bruno and Andy

An Excellent Introduction to Madrid

Published on Jul, 2024

The bicycle trip through the streets of Madrid was great fun. An excellent way to see the City as we were able to explore more areas in less time than on foot, yet at a slow enough pace to take in the sights. Our guide was a longtime resident of Madrid and was knowledgeable and passionate about this amazing City.

Madrid Bike Tour

Published on Jun, 2024

Spent a fabulous 3 hours cycling round Madrid with Ronald seeing all the sights and beautiful buildings, and learning so much about the history of this wonderful city. Always feel daunted in large cities, but riding through the different districts and learning about their individual characteristics made it feel like visiting a number of small towns. Most definitely the best way to experience Madrid in a short time.
