Overview

Discover the Historium, Bruges' most visited attraction, with this popular ticket and experience the medieval city like you never did before!     In the Historium Story we take you on a time trip to medieval Bruges. Let yourself be swept up in a wonderful love story while walking through seven historical themed rooms – magnificent medieval backdrops, with film, music and special effects. Using an audio guide you will hear everything about the Golden Age of Bruges and imagine yourself back in the time of Jan van Eyck. The Historium is located on the Market Square, where the Waterhalle used to be. This was the central warehouse for the shipping industry in the thriving trading city. The location has been reconstructed in the attraction and gives your visit an extra dimension. Anyone who wants to try virtual reality will have a wonderful adventure with the Historium VR Experience. It allows you to complement your visit with a virtual trip to Bruges in its Golden Age. Before or after your main visit, the Historium Virtual Reality takes you on an unforgettable virtual tour of medieval Bruges. From the comfort of a virtual reality booth, you travel back in time to the historical city and get to explore it interactively for eight whole minutes. You even get to see and use your hands! An intense experience.

Uniquely Historic Experience

This was a very enjoyable experience! We chose the VR, Historium & Tower ticket. VR experience was excellent but only 8 minutes long. Gives you a good insight into life in Bruges during that time period. Nice little tour with a unique experience as you are provided with headphones and digitally taken on an adventure with Jacob through old Bruges via 7 rooms with it's own unique story. At the end of this tour you pass through the beer café where you can stop and take a break experiencing some beautiful views over the market square while enjoying a drink on the balcony. Afterwards, if the Tower is included on your tour this is your last stop, climbing some stairs to reach the top of the tower for some elevated views of the market square. The top of the tower is very narrows, only allowing for one way traffic and a very short stay. However, on the way down you can stop for another view over the square on a wider balcony in a much more relaxed environment. All in all, I would recommend a visit here.

Fantastic VR experience and a fun and informative historical tour about Bruges.

We went with 2 teenagers. It was expensive but well worth it. We all enjoyed the VR (first timers!) and the history of Bruges is really interesting. You learn about it in a fun way moving through different rooms where you're told a story. It kept our attention. We didn't do the Tower experience as had already climbed the Belfry.

Enjoyable and informative experience

I did the experience and the VR experience and really enjoyed both. It was very quiet the day we were there, I imagine it might be slightly different if it is crowded, but I really loved it. If you have the time I highly recommend this fun was to learn more of the history of Bruges.

Great mediatic experience of Bruges medieval!

Great place to experience Bruges medieval ages! In a 60min pack you see the virtual reality movie (really cool!) Then a sequence of spaces carefully decorated/scenarios like the old times with impressive videos, spaces, smells. Very well done! At some point they present a fairytale story about the green parrot from van Eyck's painting, which is a quite poetic way to show the cityscape, some times as if you are the bird flying the city. In the end there is a small exibition of the city growth with a sequence of maps. I would not miss this! For those saying it's not an accurate history of the city, i think they miss the point! You cannot go to Disney and expect to enter Sorbonne university. This is art and entertainment! Be relaxed and enjoy!

Fun, informative - top quality museum experience!

We visited the Historium early December with our children 13yo and 10yo. All four of us agreed it was fantastic, a perfect mixture of fun and learning - edutainment… historifun… just great! The negative views here are surprising. Maybe some visitors are expecting a more traditional museum. We did the VR ticket and story and were hoping to be get a taste of historical Bruges with a big dollop of fun for a few hours and that is what we got. The VR experience is great value and works really well. A super start to our visit, really immersive and gives a great sense of what is to follow. The story tour then sees you walk through a series of rooms, passages and set pieces that tell a lovely love story through which the history of the city is relayed. Absolutely superb, so well done with little surprises along the way meaning this is such good value. After the story adventure there is a more traditional museum area to explore at your own leisure. If you want an enjoyable introduction to the history of the city then you need to do the VR ticket and story tour at the Historium.
