Overview

Discover how farmers, ranchers, and artisans make three DOP foods of Italy, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, Prosciutto ham, and Balsamic vinegar. You’ll taste these fabulous foods throughout this tour that begins in Parma and ends in Modena, this region of northern Italy that is also called by many the true culinary breadbasket of Italy.

Meeting points

NH hotel: Parma station, north exit Falcone/Borsellino, reach the NH hotel on the right. Our Van wait at the bus parking area in front of the hotel . After 10 minutes passed the scheduled time for pick up the vehicle will leave for its destination.

Itinerary

  • Parma

    The tour starts early in the morning to reach a cheese factory and watch the Parmigiano Reggiano production: from the curd to the aging. At the end, you can also taste this amazing cheese, famous all over the world.

    2 hours

  • Langhirano

    We will proceed to the idyllic hills of Langhirano or Felino, home of Prosciutto di Parma Ham.Visit an organic Parma ham farm and meet the producer. Finally, taste delicious Parma ham paired with a glass of Malvasia.

  • Modena

    To conclude our day we will travel to the Balsamic Vinegar farm house in the city of Modena. The tour continue with a view and a walking in the splendid 40-acre vineyard's estate, before continuing with a visit of the rooms where this "black gold" is produced, aged, and preserved within ancient wooden barrels. You will then taste 3 traditional balsamic vinegar which are 15, 22, and 28 years old, combined with local delicacies.

Well organised tour with friendly guides and great food!

We did the parmigiano reggiano, prosciutto di parma, and balsamic vinegar tour. The guides did a great job of explaining the process involved in each product. It was a great tour and the food was delicious. It was also well organised. It was easy to find the pick up point and the tour guides were very friendly.

The day was congenial and so interesting. I have wanted to visit Parma and Modena for about 10 years and finally was able to have the experience that I wanted. George is an excellent guide and driver. We enjoyed him a lot. One bit of advice. The barn at the dairy was filthy and so smelly that one guest gagged. I grew up on a dairy farm and was shocked by the condition of the animals. Think about another way to present the cows.

Really lovely guide and plenty of room for all the tour group. Very informative in an interesting way, especially how important the naming of products is. Great to be able to taste the difference in cheese and vinegars. Easy to purchase well-priced quality produce. One suggestion for the Parma ham tasting would be to have 2 different aged hams (the one we did try was lovely).

This tour was so informative, but better yet, we got to try ALL the things you think of when you think of Italy, and they were DELICIOUS! It was so cool seeing how some of our favorite foods are made! This is a can’t miss tour!
