This is definitely something different to do rather than a traditional safari. You see so many animals plus a little adventure.
Calvin was great. He was punctual and courteous. His car is very comfortable for the 2 hour drive from Nairobi to Hell’s Gate.
Once at Hell’s Gate, we met our park guide who took us on a 8Km bike ride through the park to the gorge. The bike ride was fairly easy and very cool to see animals while not in a jeep. The hike through the gorge was another different aspect of the day.
When it was time to bike the 8Km back, we thought it too hot and Calvin was gracious enough to come pick us up in the park.
From the park we took a boat tour of Lake Naviasha. This was my favorite part of the day. The boat ride was relaxing and we spotted various birds and animals on crescent island. There were hippos out of the water grazing and sunning as well as zebras, gazelle, buffalo and many others.
Don’t forget that you do end up tipping the bike guide, the boat guide as well as Calvin so be sure to plan that. They all deserved a good tip.
The biggest tip is to get your ticket for Hell’s Gate with the bike the day before to cut time upon arrival on the Kenya ecitizen website. This can be a bit of a confusing process so it’s best to take the time before you are there. Also, make sure your pop-ups are not blocked in your settings otherwise you will not be able to process the payment.
