Overview

Enjoy the great mountain hiking tour through the Cocora Valley known as the hummingbird circuit, an incredible natural route of approximately 12 kilometers in the middle of the native cloud forests in combination with the forest waterfall, the 7 hanging bridges, the mountain farm and the most beautiful wax palm landscapes. This tour starts from Salento by jeep, then reaches the starting point in the Cocora Valley. Then the tour will begin through the palm forest, a humid and pine forest to the mountain farm. Place where you will have a view of the Morrogacho hill. After that you will descend to reach the Acaime reserve, place where you will enjoy a snack and sighting of hummingbirds of the region, to then continue with the tour in the cloud forest and seven hanging bridges that will take you back to the Cocora Valley.

Itinerary

    Starting from Salento, the father municipality of QuindĂ­o, we will leave for the Cocora Valley in the jeep willys transport for approximately 20 to 25 minutes, accompanied by the local guide.

  • Valle del Cocora

    Starting from Salento QuindĂ­o to enjoy a walk to enjoy the natural landscapes of palms, humid forest and pine to the mountain farm which has a beautiful viewpoint of the Cocora Valley canyon and from which you can see the foot of the Morro Gacho hill , then we will descend about 1 kilometer and continue to the Acaime Reserve or house of the hummingbirds where we will rest a bit and have the snack included in the activity, Aguapanela with cheese or its derivatives. Then we will return through the cloud forest passing 7 suspension bridges, the waterfall of the cloud forest and the passage through the gate that reveals the mountains full of palms.

Ending 2024 Hiking experience

Cesar was our guide and he provided not only basic knowledge about the region and landscape but also about birds and prior trips experiences. We ended up our 2024 with this hiking experience and we are grateful we did it with him. It is a very recommended experience.

Challenging, peaceful, awe inspiring

We were in awe of Daniel’s passion and knowledge for the Cocora Valley and its nature and wildlife. He guided us through a 12k hike and was happy to go at whatever pace we needed. We enjoyed talking through the whole hike and came away having learned so much. The peaceful moments sitting watching the hummingbirds will be unforgettable. Would love to complete this circuit again one day.

We had a wonderful time with our guide, Daniel. Super knowledgeable and great conversations. We hiked about 5 hours total, saw several species of birds and fauna, etc. We had hiking boots and would recommend proper hiking footwear to do this trek, particularly for the water crossings and mud. The wax palms are impressive and the hummingbird point is worth the effort. Would recommend Daniel to be your guide. Highlight of our trip to Colombia
