Overview

Our rigorous Sunset Desert Jeep Tour is a bumpy off-road sightseeing tour through the scenic Jeep trails of the Tonto National Forest, north of Scottsdale, Arizona. Experience a world-famous Arizona sunset (weather dependent) as our professional tour guides teach you about the Sonoran desert flora, fauna, and Native American history. At sunset, we will stop at our panoramic lookout point overseeing the historic Great Western Trail. This is a public tour (not private). Public tour vehicles: Modified open-air vertical-row (sideways) seating Jeep Gladiator (14 seats) and Jeep YJ (7 seats). Total duration of this tour ranges from 2 to 3 hours depending on the time of year. Confirm the exact end time with your tour guide before the tour. Scottsdale Adventure Tours is a special recreation permit-holder through the U.S. Department of Agriculture: Cave Creek Ranger District.

This is a guide-led tour; guests will NOT be driving the Jeep.
From November to February, bring a coat or jacket. The temperature will drop ~20 degrees after sunset.
Our bumpy off-road Jeep tours are low-speed, jarring rides through rough terrain. Please ensure that every guest in your party understands that this off-road tour is a low-speed, bumpy ride through rough terrain.

Our Amazing Tour Guide Ed

I attended this tour alone and loved every minute of it! I met new friends immediately. There was a bachelorette party and a group of three women including myself in two separate jeeps. We started with a bottle of water and a blanket for each person. The open air jeep was great to ride in. I felt comfortable and safe! I also enjoyed the "whee" bumps. Ed was a wealth of knowledge. Not only did we learn about flora and fauna in the desert, Scottsdale, and Phoenix, but we also learned the history of the area and astronomy. Our ride through the desert was bumpy, but exhilarating. We arrived at the top of the trail right before the sunset, and oh what a sunset! God in his majestic beauty created tons of different cacti, birds, and other plants as well as the amazing colors of the sunset striated across the western sky (nod to Elphaba) and the majestic purple mountains. Ed snapped amazing pictures for us and provided us with blankets, hand warmers, hot chocolate, Baileys, powdered mesquite, a lovely creosote and essential oil refreshing spray, and excellent company. If you are considering one tour in Scottsdale, this is it! And ask for Ed...

We did this tour for a bachelorette party and it was honestly the highlight of the trip. Grace was the best! She made sure we had fun and let us blast our music, but also educated us about the really interesting history of our surroundings.

What an interesting and fun addition to our mom and daughter trip to Scottsdale! The sunset was breathtaking, but the company and storytelling by our guide John was priceless. He kept us thoroughly entertained the whole time including the best hot chocolate we ever had. He took photos of us like a pro and we were able to capture some gorgeous photos. These folks know what they are doing and despite the rough terrain, they are experienced and careful with the driving.
