The first stop of the trip to the stunning Basilica of San Francesco, which is one of the sites noted by the World Heritage Committee, two of the facts that represent an amalgamation of masterpieces from creative human genius and it is an extraordinary example of an architectonic complex that has heavily influenced the development of art and architecture. The Church is formed of three churches: from the Crypt / Tomb Church, Lower Church and the Upper Church.

Another location that can't be missed is the Cathedral of San Rufino, the historic center of Assisi. Its wonderful Romanesque façade rises majestically over San Rufino Square. The interior houses the baptismal font in which Saint Francis, Saint Clare and possibly the future Emperor Frederick II, the Duke of Swabia, were baptized.

Late morning, guests will reach the beautiful fortress stands on a hill that overlooks Assisi: The Rocca Maggiore. From the walls of the castle and the "male" tower, guests can enjoy a magnificent view of the city and the Umbrian valley. Moreover, the various halls inside the fortress within reconstructed themes inspired by medieval life. In fact, in the ancient times, it was a sacred and essential to defend the town.

For lunch, guests will taste the delicious Umbrian flavors in a local restaurant. The Assisi cousin is basic and simple, with local oil, enriched every plate - without, meanwhile, robbing it of its original flavors. For truffle lovers, the locals use a black truffle as a condiment of pasta. Moreover, thanks to the well-adapted terrain to viticulture and the temperate climate, this area is famous for prestigious wines.

After lunch, guests will visit the amazing Church of Saint Mary of the Angels, located at the feet of the hills of Assisi protecting the Portiuncula, the place where Saint Francis founded the first group of Minor Friars Order, and the Chapel of Transit "where the saint died on October 3rd 1226.

Claudio is the best! Very thoughtful and considerate. He had hot pastries ready for our long road trip to Assisi. He gave great hints and tips and planned the schedule incredibly well- I know it's low season, but we went at times when the crowds were low in each location. Many thanks again! Rome to Assissi Tour

Alex Poalini was a great tour guide. He took my husband and me from Rome to Assissi. He had breakfast and water in the car when he picked us up. When we asked him to stop at an unscheduled stop he was very accommodating. He took us from Rome to Assissi. Everyone should do this trip especially if you are Catholic. The town is quaint and full of charm. The churches are gorgeous. Anyone with a special devotion to St. Francis or St. Clare will love it. Alex was great and very knowledgeable. Make sure you have your walking shoes on.
Take this trip. You'll be so glad you did.

Getting to Assisi from Rome can be challenging. Getting around Assisi after having arrived is another layer of difficulty, especially for those with limited time. Our cheerful and accommodating driver for the day, Alex Paolini, helped us overcome both concerns by shuttling us efficiently to and through Assisi for a beautiful day that allowed us to see everything we had hoped to experience and more. He permitted our occasional distractions while still managing to keep us on schedule, in time to see every amazing church and holy site on our extensive agenda. The hills of Umbria are gorgeous, but climbing them fast enough to take in every location might require a marathoner's endurance and still risk the disappointment arriving to closed doors. Alex's brave driving through those narrow, beautiful streets and his thoughtful suggestion that we start earlier than originally scheduled got us everywhere on time and ready to move on to the next site without delay. Highly recommended. Worth every penny.
