Our tour started promptly on time. It was easy to find the meeting point. The vehicle was a large van and was comfortable. But at times it was a bumpy ride because the “shock absorbers” needed replacing. The
tour guide Manny was excellent. He gave us a detailed explanation of anicent Rome and Modern Rome. He explained everything that we would do and see.
He introduced our driver, Paulo, immediately.
Orvieto was quite interesting. We had enough time to visit the famous Church but you had to pay extra to go inside. There was enough time to do some shopping but most stores was not open. One shop was open early & she allowed American Dollars for shopping. She gave an even exchange 1 American Dollar = to
€ EURO. The exchange rate yesterday not that much. So we had some American currency with us & used them.
The tour of Assisi was quite interesting but difficult. There are many hills that can be difficult to climb. We had to ask for free time from our tour guide & the local tour guide. Remind them. The local guide was excellent. She gave us many facts that we never heard about and pointed out different aspects of the Old Town versus the New Town.
We got to see the sunset over Assisi and Umbria.
Note—free time 20 minutes -There was a lovely perfume shops near the old square before you enter the St. Francis Cathedral.
We had lunch between Orvieto and Assisi. It was quite disappointing that drinks were not included. You had to pay for a drink. Our tour guide & bus driver got there drinks free. We were a small group so we could eat with “new friends” or with your own party. The lunch was nothing special. The pasta was ordinary. The pork and potatoes were cold and small portions. The bread was excellent.
The toilets were disgusting. There was only 2 toilets & there was no toilet seat. It is not to be expected.
In Italy, you have to pay to use toilets and you don’t always get sanitary facilities. I always bring wipes for toilet & my hands.
