Itinerary

  • Coyoacan

    After being picked up at your hotel in Mexico City, you will head first to Coyoacán, which name in Náhuatl means “place of coyotes“. Here, your guide will give you a brief explanation on the origins and importance of this quarter and the surroundings, and you’ll have time to walk around its streets and if you want to, have a light breakfast (at your expense). The Spanish used the area as their headquarters during the conquest of the Aztec Empire and made it the first capital of New Spain between 1521 and 1523. The village remained completely independent of Mexico City through the colonial period into the 19th century. The borough of Coyoacan, along with its bohemian ambience and diversity of activities to do and places to visit, make its historic center a highly popular place to visit.

  • Museo Frida Kahlo

    After soaking up the beauty of the Historic Center of Coyoacan you will visit the museum of Frida Kahlo, also called the “Blue House”, where you’ll learn all about the intense relationship between Frida, her works and her home. You will see some of her most important works of art and learn where she was born and also where she died. Although after marrying Diego Rivera she lived in different places of Mexico City, and abroad, she always went back to her old house in Coyoacan. Diego Rivera stated in his will that the home had to be donated, as well as all its contents, in order to turn it into a museum to honor Frida's life. The museum contains a collection of artwork by Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and other artists along with the couple’s Mexican folk art, pre-Hispanic artifacts, photographs, memorabilia, personal items, and more. The collection is displayed in the rooms of the house which remains much as it was in the 1950s. It is the most popular museum in Coyoacán and one of the most visited in Mexico City. Additional to the contents in the house, you can watch a short video to get a better idea of the painter's point of view on life. It's also worth taking a small walk across the garden, completely enclosed by the four sides or wings of the structure. Its structure is divided by a stepped pyramid, a fountain, and a reflection pool.

  • Floating Gardens of Xochimilco

    After getting acquainted with Frida's life, the tour continues towards one her favorite places: Xochimilco, or the place of flowers. Here, not only will you get information on its origins, going back to the pre-hispanic times, but you will also you enjoy a ride on a trajinera, a traditional boat of the area. After the ride, you’ll have spare time to walk around the crafts market or try the delicious food sold on the surrounding area.

  • Ciudad Universitaria

    The last stop is Ciudad Universitaria where your guide will explain to you about the murals of Rectoría and the Central Library belonging to the main campus of National University. Your tour ends with your hotel drop-off.

Our private tour with Ligia was a good experience. She picked us up on time, and shared her credentials, and made us feel welcome and safe. She was informative, as well as answered my husband’s million questions. She let us take our time during all the stops, and she didn't rush us through sites, and gave us good recommendations for food. She navigated the traffic well and we were not bored during the drive times.

Breathtaking Sites With A Great Guide!

Ligia was an AMAZING guide. She was prompt, personable and well versed in all sites. Plus she kept offering to answer any questions and take photos for us. She works for Amigo Tours and I appreciated the fact that they checked in with me multiple times leading up to the tour and I didn't have any trouble changing my pick up location when I changed hotels. If you're on the fence, this is your sign to book it. Ligia took care of tickets, we got to skip lines and she translated for us when we shopped on the boat and hired a Mariachi band.

Exceptional Guide & Cultural Experience

Full day of activities with a focus on Frida Khalo and Diego Rivera. Our guide, Leticia, and driver, Marco, got us to each stop despite Mexico City's infamous traffic. What really appealed to us was Leticia's encyclopedic knowledge of Mexico's history, art and culture. Ask for her. You won't be disappointed.

Super interesting. Driver was great — Jose was a patient and made it thru lots of traffic during busy hours. Rubin is a gem! So smart and articulate and a great person to have on your trip. He waited for us, explained everythung in a very interesting and understandable way. Just had a great time! Wish he had them again tomorrow … for the rest of our trip

Christian was our guide and Johnny was our driver. We had a fabulous day that was well-paced and full of great information. Christian was so attentive and made sure we got the most out of our tour. We were so lucky to have him as our guide. He customized it to what we were interested in and made sure we got to do everything we wanted to do. We learned a lot from Christian and it was great to have this tour on our last day to bring all of the information together. We highly recommend this tour!
