Overview

The National Museum of Anthropology is a national museum of Mexico. It’s the largest and most visited museum in Mexico. This is the most important building in Latin America, with rooms that contain the pre-hispanic evidence of the Mexicas, Mayas, Toltecas and more cultures from the country through time. The Anthropology Museum is the most emblematic place safeguarding the Mexican indigenous legacy. It stands as a symbol of identity, and as a mentor of generations that want to know about their cultural roots. Wonder at its innovative design, the art, and the symbolism that has given the building a well-known personality around the world. Here, you will see a great collection of pre-hispanic objects that were found in different parts of the country, which were made by the various cultures that developed in the vast territory that is now Mexico.

Itinerary

  • Museo Nacional de Antropologia

The museum is the synthesis of an ideological, scientific, and political feat. The museum’s collections include the Stone of the Sun, giant stone heads of the Olmec civilization that were found in the jungles of Tabasco and Veracruz, treasures recovered from the Mayan civilization, at the Sacred Cenote at Chichen Itza, among others. It also has a model of the location and layout of the former Aztec capital Tenochtitlan, the site of which is now occupied by the central area of modern-day Mexico City. The permanent exhibitions on the ground floor cover all pre-Columbian civilizations located on the current territory of Mexico as well as in former Mexican territory in what is today the southwestern United States. The museum also hosts visiting exhibits, generally focusing on other of the world’s great cultures

Museo De Antropología is a MUST SEE!

Published on Dec, 2024

Wow! What an experience. My husband and I had an amazing tour at the Museo De Antropología in Mexico City. We learned so much about the history of Mexico and Mexico City and our guide Alan was the best!! His knowledge and love of the history of the country was amazing. We were totally mesmerized as he took us through the museum in such a way that by the time we left, we learned so much about the early history and it gave us a thirst to learn more. It is a must see and you have to use Alan as your personal guide. You will not be sorry!

Cosmology

Published on Dec, 2024

My guide Roberto was very passionate about their native culture, he started from Talking about the architecture in relation with mesoamerican cosmology, which was very inspiration for me. This opening session was very impressive and laid a foundation stone for the later tour.

Anthropology Secrets

Published on Dec, 2024

Our guide, Gibran, was very knowledgeable about the Anthropology Museum. He had many interesting stories about the artifacts and had extra materials to illustrate history of the four cultures. His details about ritual human sacrifices kept us in suspense. He also offered to take pictures for us. We enjoyed our tour.

Guide for the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City

Our tour guide, Gibran Alejandro Martinez Gonzalez was excellent. He has encyclopedic knowledge of Meso-American cultures and archeology.

Amazing experience!

Published on Dec, 2024

Gibran provided a perfect private tour. We got so much more out of our museum visit than we would have if we had decided to go alone. He was very proficient in English and it was great practice to converse with him and we were both sharpening our language skills. This tour exceeded our expectations and we would absolutely recommend Gibran as a guide.
