The underground caves are one of the most amazing visits to be made on Terceira Island. This tour includes the visit to the Gruta Natal and the Algar do CarvĂŁo, also to the famous Furnas de Enxofre and the leisure area Lagoa das Patas.

Itinerary

  • Lagoa Das Patas

    The first stop of the tour will be at a secret place called Lagoa das Patas. In this place it is possible to visit the stream that originates from Serra de Sta Bárbara, visit the Lagoon and interact with animals such as ducks and some birds. It is a leisure area full of life and nature!

    Here we will visit the famous Gruta Natal and Lagoa do Negro. At this stop, you have the opportunity to walk through lava tunnels made by mother nature and see Lagoa do Negro up close.

  • Furnas do Enxofre

    Furnas do Enxofre is made up of an area that comprises several outlets of aggressive volcanic gases at different temperatures, some quite high. It has a small pedestrian trail that allows you to observe the sulfur smoke up close.

  • Algar do Carvao

    The visit to the famous cave of Algar do CarvĂŁo. Here we can visit the interior of a volcano, a rare phenomenon in the history of volcanoes worldwide. We see heaven from the inside of the earth!

A must do tour

The tour was amazing. Algar do CarvĂŁo is the must if you visiting Terceira: a unique experience. I don't sure are there other place where you can look at the sky from the inside of volcano. All other destinations were also beautiful, especially the ducks on the lagoon - I didn't expect this in volcano tour. There is a lot of cave photos here already, so I add ducks. Andre is the best guide I ever met. He's very knowledgeable, friendly and told us a lot about the geology and nature of Azores, and also about the local culture and history. I highly recommend this tour for everybody interesting in nature. It definitely worth the price.

James was the best! Very knowledgeable with a great sense of humor too. We enjoyed every minute of our tour with him. The volcano was so beautiful! We would highly recommend this tour group. We loved it so much we booked him for the next morning for the western 1/2 day tour.
