Overview

Visit the Snow Monkeys of Jigokudani, named after the plumes of steam shooting out of the ground. Not as scary as it sounds, however, it is a truly memorable experience safe for all ages. After visiting the Monkeys we offer you an exclusive look into the historic Onsen Village of Shibu. This village was frequented by Samurai, poets, and travellers alike. Good fortune is said to come to those who bathe in each of the Onsens in town. This village is a picture from the past. As you stroll through the narrow streets lined with traditional buildings, some hundreds of years old, you might just get to see some more wild monkeys as they try to scavenge food!   • Kokugon-ji Temple

    [SPRING TIME ONLY] Kokugon-ji is a temple in the countryside of Nakano, originally built in the year 825. The temple is home to a well now recognised as one of Shinshu's famous waters. It is considered to be enmeisui, or water capable of extending your life! Despite the quiet and little-known location, the temple is surrounded by over 1000 cherry blossom trees, making it a stunning location during the spring.

  • Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park

    See the Snow Monkeys of Jigokudani (Hell Valley) Monkey Park, named for the plumes of steam rising from the ground, as if from hell itself! Despite the name, this is a fun and unforgettable trip for the whole family. The driver guide will provide information about all points of interest on the way to the park, but will not accompany you into the park.

  • Sake Storehouse Art Museum - Gallery Tamamura Honten

    [GREEN SEASON ONLY / CLOSED on SUNDAY] Sake & Beer brewery. The ground floor is a shop area, 2nd floor is a traditional art gallery. During winter, you may freely visit it instead of the guided walk in Shibu Onsen.

  • Shibu Onsen

    Shibu Onsen is a traditional Onsen town, full of rich culture, beautiful narrow backstreets, and of course 9 public onsen. Sometimes some more wild monkeys can even show up to cause trouble! This section of the tour is a guided walking tour. If you would prefer to relax in an onsen you may do so for only ¥500!

Tommy our All right Was a wealth of information It is very personable, fun to be with went out of his way to show us many wonderful sites, as well as help us with our train tickets. Exceptional!

Beautiful nature, daughter loved monkeys. It was worth the long walking. Be aware, it can be muddy. Boots can be rented but sizes might not be available. Better to bring your own shoe covers. It was nice to see the onsen town, to learn about traditions and history and try Japanese sweets.

It was an easy tour to book and get picked and dropped off direct from Nowaza. The snow monkeys were great and the timing was just about right. Check the weather before you go as wish I haven’t worn my white Stan Smiths on the muddy trails. The snow had melted by the time we went. It was still wonderful but think it would look most magical in the snow. The tour leader Tommy was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Shibu looks like it would be well worth a one night trip in its own right to visit all the onsens and collect stamps.

Really good tour. Our guide helped us understand the culture and history associated with the area. The monkeys were awesome, could have watched them for hours. We didn’t feel rushed at any point. Would do again for sure
