Jake was fantastic! Great guide to some of the city's coolest bars and a super interesting person to get to know as well. We visited four bars and walked through another one and all of them were good, if not great! Jake also mixed in some history at/before each bar, which was also really interesting. None of the barswere packed so we never felt crowded. Although drinks weren't included in the price of the tour, that was fine because it allowed us to explore the full menu at each place instead of being locked into a certain drink or price range, and believe me, you WANT to explore the full menu at each of these places!
Two things to note:
1) If you are looking for a bar/pub crawl in the traditional sense, this is NOT your tour... in the best way! The title of the activity, in my opinion, is a little misleading because it has "pub walk" in it, and when I think of "pub walks" I usually think of drunk bachelor parties and college kids stumbling down the 6th St. This is not that. All the bars we went to were either cocktail bars or speakeasies and were fairly lively, but super chill and somewhat intimate, with the exception of the first bar because it was early in the evening, but the first bar was still really cool to see because it had a lot of history to it. So if cocktail bars and speakeasies are your thing, you've come to the right place!!!
2) To the tour organizers, I'm torn as to whether the Driskill bar should be an actual stop and Firehouse Lounge should only be a walkthrough like we did, or whether it should be the reverse and we should stop at Firehouse and only walk through the Driskill. One one hand, the Driskill was the only bar that served food, and food was much appreciated midway through our tour. On the other hand, as historic as it is, the Driskill bar definitely felt the most "corporate" of all the places we went (since the Driskill itself is now a Hyatt property) and was the most overpriced place (in terms of value) on the entire tour. I'm leaning towards a walkthrough only of the Driskill and actually stopping at Firehouse, but could be convinced either way?
All in all though, a wonderful tour!!!
