Overview

Experience the world’s largest urban bat colony emerge from under the Congress Avenue Bridge!  This colony made up of 1.5 million Mexican free tailed bats is an amazing sight to see and hear. From the meeting point, join your professional guide where you will paddle and observe one of nature’s wonders and learn about how these nocturnal creatures help create a better ecosystem for everyone. The tour lasts 2 hours and food and drinks are not included. 

Meeting points

We will meet directly under the I35 overpass off East Ave out of a parking lot/docking area by the water and launch from there. If you’re having trouble locating us, just look up Lone Star Kayak Tours on Google Maps. We're to the left with the blue and orange kayaks when you come down to the water!

Itinerary

  • Congress Avenue Bridge Bat Watching

    You will see the world's largest urban bat colony that peaks at around 2 million bats during the peak of the season. The bats take off around sunset and always head towards the eastern part of downtown.

    You will see a number of buildings on the Austin Skyline including the Hotel Van Zandt, The Austonian Tower, and a multitude of residential and commercial buildings.

Very relaxing, loved this experience! Learned about the buildings and skyline as well as the bats. I made a last minute reservation and it was perfect. My only concern was finding their location under the bridge

We had a fantastic time on our kayak bat tour in mid October. It was the first time either of us had kayaked and the guide team was super helpful in making sure everyone knew what to do and got around safely. The view was spectacular and the info provided by our guide was super interesting and informative.
