I can a bit early and wasn’t sure if I was at the right place but our guide was already there. We had some small talk before other guest arrived and we were given a short lecture on how to behave in the stable and history of sumo. The session was easy to observe because we were seated in chairs which made it easier to take photos (video is prohibited). The place is easy access, only 14 minutes to Tokyo station so planning for the next was very easy. Will recommend this tour especially if the real tournament is not on and definitely better than the sumo shows which seems more entertaining that reflect the real thing. Yayoi

There were 3 groups attending the sumo practice. One with 2 people with a guide. Another with 15 plus people with a guide and our group. The big group was having problems in coordination and looked like the lead was herding cats. They were also the latest so they were sitting in the back row seats. My personal observation is that we were lucky to have chosen the smaller group instead of the large group which had so much more reviews probably because of their size because we came in 30 minutes earlier so go to sit in the front row, was given a presentation after the tour whereas that big group just dispersed and went on their individual way. Pretty sure we have a better understanding of sumo thanks to our guide Maxy.

The good was we were asked to come early which was good because there are multiple vendors and we got to sit in the front row meaning we can see very clearly. That was nice. The other thing was the explanation from our guide masa. The 20 minute presentation after the practice helped give us a contextual understanding of what the practice and sumo is. Entertaining and educational.

This tour was recommended by my tour agent and I took it and am very pleased that I did it. The tour was a bit early start that other sumo practice tours but understood why when we got there. We were able to get front row seats. The practice itself was a quiet session because we cannot talk there but while the other groups dispersed we were give a presentation on the history and way of life of a sumo wrestler so that gave the tour much more context versus just having a seat to the practice. The agent was right. I would recommend this tour in a heartbeat.

Great for an early bird. We jet up at 730AM at Kiyosumishirakawa station which was about 15 minutes from Shinjuku station and made our way to the Shiko Sumo stable. The men in their lioncloths were slamming into each other like tanks!! After the practice we got to take picture with a wrestler and the presentation after the practice helped make sense to what we were watching. That bit help quite a bit. A great way to learn sumo and see the sport. Strongly recommended!!
