Overview

Considered an easy-grade walk, Levada da Referta is relatively short and flat. This walk does not present any significant difficulties. The agricultural side of the walk allows you to observe the local crops grown for self-sustenance. Most of the uncultivated land belongs to people who have since emigrated or that do not make the primary sector their main activity. A Penha de Águia marks its presence throughout the walk and includes one of the many trails located close to the levada.

We are located at the entrance of the Shopping Center, on the right side. Our shop is easy to find, just look for a yellow smiley face, shop sign.

This activity ends back at the meeting point.

We have two meeting points in the center of Funchal City. One is by the cable car station located in the old town. The other is located in the roundabout so-called "Rotunda do Infante".

What To Expect

Beautiful and easy walk

We did the levada da referta last week with a knowledgeable and friendly guide in beautiful surroundings. The walk was easy and almost flat.

This really is an easy levada walk. Our guide, Rodrigues, was excellent, so informative about the island's flora, pointing out different plants, getting us to experience the aromas and flavours as we stopped to admire the lush valleys and plants clinging to the rock face. We ended at a cafe for refreshment, in our case poncho and a taste of cake, before our homeward drive. The minibus was OK but unlike other trips with Happy Tours, it did not have speakers so most of the information was lost to those sitting further back. I can highly recommend this tour.

Really enjoyed my introduction to lavarda walking. Beautiful scenery and a short walk. The guide was lovely and very informative. The driver very safe and punctual. I also found Happy Tours a great company, booking was quick & easy and the operative knowledgable & informative. Thank you.
