Food is undoubtedly one of Lyon's most beloved traditions. Since 1935, the city has been considered the world capital of gastronomy. When Lyon's culinary traditions were being forged, the famous "Mères Lyonnaises" (Lyonnaise Mothers) managed to turn Lyon cuisine into an institution. Today, male chefs dominate the scene, like the famous Paul Bocuse, however it is the women who evolved the renowned cuisine. We'll guide you through this gastronomic journey infused with passion, history, and exquisite French food and wine. Find out why eating and drinking are not just a pastime in Lyon, but a way of life. As a private tour, everything works around you! Our start times are much more easy going, dates can open up. It's a much more intimate and cozy experience. No need to shout over other tourists, you will have every question answered, and leave feeling like a native yourself!

Meeting Point

Please meet at the Vieux Lyon area, in front of the Temple, Place du Change, 69005 Lyon. Your guide will be waiting for you with an orange umbrella, and a big smile, in front of the Temple.

What To Expect

1. Taste a selection of local charcuterie and cheeses with a glass of wine from a traditional 'Pot Lyonnais'. Learn about how these are made and why they are important in the region. 30 minutes

2. The oldest street of Lyon riddled with medieval buildings and its famous traboules. 30 minutes

3. Home of the famous Pink Pralines brioches. 30 minutes

4. Beautiful XXIIth Century Cathedral that still bears the stigmates of the French war of Religion. 30 minutes

5. The largest pedestrianised city square in Europe, with a statue of Louis IX right in the heart of the Presqu'ile of Lyon. Here we pick up the 'secret sweet treat' from Voisin, a Lyon based chocolate shop, to enjoy at the end of the tour. 30 minutes

6. A hot dish main course and a glass of wine in a family run Bouchon that first opened nearly 100 years ago. You have a choice of typical Bouchon style dishes from the menu, covering meat, fish and vegetarian options. 30 minutes

7. Here we get an Expresso at one of Lyon's top coffee boutiques before heading back into the oldest part of the Hôtel-Dieu, to drink the coffees and taste the final 'secret' sweet treat to finish the tour. 30 minutes

Sinylle gave us a fantastic tour in old town in Lyon. Very Good food and we learned about the history of Lyon. Sibylle also showed us some wonderful places, Churchs and other places. Recommended! Local Lyon food.
