When planning a cruise stop in the picturesque Port of Katakolon, a visit to Ancient Olympia is a must-visit place. But have you ever thought about where all these marble statues at Olympia’s Museum come from? What makes marble so unique to be used through Greek and Roman Antiquity?
The Greek sculptors were focused on realizing their Gods from marble, but how in an art scene dominated by pottery, painting, and architecture, the marble become the sculpting medium par excellence? Join us on this tour and visit with us this one and only marble workshop in the Peloponnese open to the public where you can approach the art of marble sculpting. In addition, we will visit a local honey farm and explore the world of honey bees.

Katakolo Port
Upon arrival at Katakolon Port, you will be picked up from the spot and at the time arranged. We will be there holding a sign with your name clearly written on it, so that it is easier for you to recognize us. Afterwards you will enjoy safe and comfortable transfer in our luxurious Mercedes vehicles. During your transfer you can enjoy a free wi-fi on board but we will also provide you with a tablet and visual information about the area in different languages. We can also provide you a local guide book with all the necessary information about the archaeological site & Museum of Ancient Olympia, free of charge. The duration of the transfer is about 30min.
Next stop will be a short honey sweet stop at local honey farm. Klio, the beekeeper, will give you warm and sweet welcome, before she guide you through her private collection and introduce you to the secretes of honey production. Finally, you will sit the cool garden and under the natural shades of the trees, you will taste the products of the farm itself, along with the traditional sweets with honey from Klio’s bees.

After approx. 4 ½ hrs is time to return back to Katakolon port. Make yourself comfortable at the seats of our luxurious vehicles and get back to your cruise on time and why not to take a jar of honey or apple made of clay with you.

Archaeological Site of Olympia
Olympia is an outstanding example of a great Pan-Hellenic sanctuary of antiquity, with its multiple functions: religious, political and social. Ancient sanctuaries, such as the Pelopion and a row of Treasuries to the north at the foot of Kronion Hill, are present within the peribolus of the Altis, consecrated to the gods, alongside the principal temples of Zeus and Hera. Olympia is directly and tangibly associated with an event of universal significance. The Olympic Games were celebrated regularly beginning in 776 BC.
